I agree. But then one could say the same thing about any number of qualities, such as "moral" or "compassionate," "loving," etc.

one can say, do, feel, whatever one pleases, the assumption lives as if truth. Life is the breath of intention, a prayer, it's trust in reality.

there are no buts my learned friend, save those you or should I say 'we' are often want to chase after, all derivations, mispellings and intentions of 'buts' assumed of course... devil

My brother is a Christian and he has the power of healing through prayer.. he was telling me of two instances where prayer has defied medical science... one instance is with a friend of his (I met this girl... she exists) she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and was being treated in the hospital where he works (he is a medical professional).. anyway.. when he first became a Christian about 18 years ago, she asked him to pray for her when she received results of a biopsy diagnosing a cancerous tumour... he did, he prayed for her and when he did he got a strange feeling go up through him, which he didn't understand, he didn't mention anything to her (becuase he didn't fully understand it himself) because he didn't want to give her false hope.. but when she went shortly after for an x-ray the tumour had gone... completely.. she had not even received treatment yet... she was x-rayed in the hospital where he works so he got to see the results.. the doctors were baffled...

if you are going to assume there is a god, and that he is infinitely just, I am going to assume that praying to him for my own or the benefit of others is largely a waste of time since your assumed infinite god's intentions would prevail regardless.

technically justice is ephemeral and as such cannot be infinite mr. assumption.

Wanted to add - not a shameless "bump," actually feeling quite guilty - that many of the characteristics listed for God (such as omnipotence, omniscience, etc.) are logically incoherent if not self-contradictory, but that doesn't stop people who don't appreciate their logical ramifications from claiming to believe in them.heart

This is an interesting story. I won't say this was a coincidence or that maybe your brother felt some positive force about this woman because he was so tuned into her energy, but I will say that maybe a miracle happened that I just can't explain right now...a miracle thought prayer.....dunno

I don't know if an infinitely intelligent being would benefit from our entreaties, except maybe with the exception that you are acknowledging "it" is real, after all "it" is a higher being. I do however believe in the power of prayer, i have seen it work too many times to doubt it, i am not religious but i am very very spiritual and do believe that there is a higher being, i believe in the bible only in parables but i follow as close as i can to that, i will never be perfect and probably wont stride for perfection but i will try to follow as close to good as the "higher being" that i believe in will allow me, and maybe one day i will satisfy it. Deep thread jeffhug

Hi guys

getting back to the question at hand.......

I would say the God issue can be as complicated and as complex as you wish or just flip the coin and simplify..........God can be so uncomplicated

it is simply a matter of good verses bad

positive verses negative

love of the self and there after love for others

"do onto other as you have done onto you"

so so sooooooooooo simple

go forth and love...........................

drop the egosssssssssssssssss

thumbs up problematic perhaps, but I love paradoxical lamentations.

Once you've found logic it is only noticed because of the it's illogical natures as well. Like cold, one can't appreciate, let alone acknowledge the temperature unless its from a perspective of warmth. (your body temp)

Yes.

There are many such observed and recorded examples of spiritual healing, both physical and emotional.

It's too easy in a jaded, cynical, society to react destructive and dismissive toward spiritual and metaphysical topics like the 'power of prayer' and demonstrable belief.

Not much seems ever to come of imposing limited physical terms on a discussion and examination of genuine magic, spirituality, godheads.

What purpose does it serve to restrict and bind with physical sciences, logic, prejudice, the metaphysical abstractions and demonstrable beliefs such as the power of prayer, shaman practice, genuine magic...?

Attempting to reduce and anthropomorphise an abstraction must surely be counterproductive?

Science must set out to prove by attempting to disprove. Attempting to prove an Omega point is essential in all theology and quantum physics.

There's a lot more interdependence, though, between physics and metaphysical theory.

For example, when the Hadron Collider near Geneva finally gets its act together, scientists in Chile and Italy could be closer in collaboration with philosophers in France and Spain - and Melbourne and Stanford among others, toward fourth dimension, mathematically creative definition and understanding of things metaphysical. Including the power of prayer.
