I would like to know your thoughts on this... If none of these are an issue, what are?

Issues are an issue with me...

Race would never be an issue but am beginning to think strongly that religion could be an important issue. Or rather the manner people practice their Religion, could not be with someone who believes all the Bible stuff, It would be impossible not to think that they do not think for themselves.

race- haven't really thought about it, the person is more important
religion- married a catholic- and still wonder if my MIL ( who is wonderful) has said to my 'DH' ...'I knew you if you married a dirty prod this would happen'!! -ok i know she never would but maybe somewhere in the deep dark recesses of her brain, she thinks that is the reason it went belly up
politics- unless they were heavily into the BNP or nazi party, can't see it as a problem

race is not an issue. I have been involved with a few of different racial backgrounds. Politics and religion are major issues. I won't get involved with any woman who isn't a far left leaning person. And the moment I hear "Christian" my defenses go up. We have nothing in common, esp when they wear their beliefs on their sleve. JMO, of course

Race, religion, politics...all very touchy subjects, but unless she's a total extremist in any area (for example if she thinks I'm going hell for my drinking and smoking habits and insists I need to be "saved" we have a problem) it shouldn't be an issue. I can only see race being an issue when it comes to different cultures and traditions, but anything can be done with a little compromise.

Mostly it's the lying, cheating, and using me thing that gets to be trouble.

If I'm considering dating someone, every aspect of their person is an issue.
It's just not necessarily an obstacle.

... This for dating in the kind of finding a partner for relationship.
Race - an issue in that way : people of different races look different and for e.g. I dont like women with red hairs and extreme white skin that much ... But NOT in the way saying - i dont like people of the race XY ...
Religion : An issue when its not "her" religion and as long as Im not involved in the relgios tasks its OK
Politics : i dont can get along with _extreme_ "left" ones (green party or communist)

... but not anything is an issue for dating with people to have conversation and discussions about other things.

No, none of them are an issue for me.. except maybe it the politics or religion were EXTREME.

For me, politics would not be an issue but religion would be. I think that dating someone who had differing religious beliefs to mine would be problematic from the start. It depends upon whether religion is an important part of your life and to me, it is. I won't impose my views on anyone or expect them to have the same views I do, but a long term relationship with someone who did not share my religious beliefs would, in my opinion, be impossible. I am a Christian and a Catholic and it defines who I am. I was brought up Catholic but for most of my life it was just lip service. Now it is more important to me and someone who did not share my beliefs would be on another wavelength.
