Hi Scottishlass

I definitely know how you feel, Ive been single for 3 years and have learnt to rely on myself a lot and am now very independent. Dating does scares me as its getting used to having someone new in your life again, but Im now willing to give it a go.

I dont like to think what would scare me about the next step, I think I will wait and see what happens when I meet someone - then panic!

I enjoy meeting people, getting to know a guy over coffee or lunch. But then the "letdown" when there's no second meeting or the dialog just tapers off.

I guess this is for those of you (us) who've been single and out of the "dating scene" for a while.

This online dating thing gives us a chance to "meet" people we might not ordinarily meet, and that's a good thing when you aren't into the bar scene.

I guess I'm wondering if there are other people out there as afraid of getting back into dating as I find myself? I've met lots of nice people here, .....but, what is the next step?

What scares you the most about the "next step?"
I'm just scared I date someone from off here whose pic I only rated a 1 conversing

What is scary for me is to meet them in person, what if they do not like me and it is awkard, what do you say?

Next is will they ask to see me again and not do you say something?

Last is when they want to get physical and you say no not right away they think you are a prude.

What scares you the most about the "next step?"[/quote]

Hello Scottishlass,

I never let anything to scare me, and I have no fear of any hardships, which might come along in my progress of personal and professional life. It's only the matter of time, the sooner I match with someone the better for her and me. Believe me.

Nothing to be completely honest with you. I'd rather take a chance then sit home and feel sorry for myself. Gotta make it happen. Screw fear....

Completely agree with you and Ricco.

I mean, what can POSSIBLY happen if one is disappointed or disappoints the other person by not being what they expected??? You just say "t'was nice to meet you, bye" and keep going until you indeed find what you need. Sure it can put you off for a while sometimes (if it was particularly bad), but not for too long hopefully - just need to get up and try at it again. Dating to find the right person is sometimes far from FUN... But ya gotta do it to find the right one...

Hellooo Anne..
I think for me it would be having to give up some of my independence.. Having to make allowances for someone other than my children (and myself) .. I like not having to answer to anyone about WHY I bought (more) new shoes.. WHY I chose that (horrible?) paint colour..haha. I don't like the idea of someone quizzing where I am, why I'm not home yet.. all that kind of thing.. I'm scared of all that stuff... I'm scared of giving up my freedom.
We're talking dating Claire, why would you have to give up any of that? Even if it became more, you don't have to give up who you are, if someone is doing all those things, they obviously aren't the right one for you.

That's just wrong ship, if they're expecting you to be something other than what you are, they're the one with the problem, not you.
