Dear xxxxxx,

I wanted to drop you a quick note about a major policy change here at the Democratic Party.

As we move toward the general election, the Democratic Party has to be the Party of ordinary Americans, not Washington lobbyists and special interests. So, as of this morning, if you're a federal lobbyist, or if you control political action committee donations, we won't be accepting your contribution.

This is an unprecedented move for a political party to make -- one that has sent shockwaves through Washington and has turned the debate on clean campaigns upside down. We've unilaterally agreed to shut lobbyists out of the process, and we're relying on people just like you.

Imagine the signal that it sends to anyone who looks at John McCain's political machine and the special interest money it needs to fuel every move it makes.

We have a chance to change the way business is done in this country, and we're taking the lead.

I've written before about guys like Charlie Black and Rick Davis, lobbyists who are at the highest levels of McCain's campaign. But they're just the start -- John McCain and the RNC suck up lobbyist money millions of dollars at a time.

In May, McCain had his best fundraising month of the campaign, and it was directly because he refuses to shut special interests out. But we did!

Thanks,

Howard Dean

this would have been a wonderful advancement for clean politics. But when McCains name was brought into it. it can only be seen a a pre-election ploy!

Looks like nothing but another "tell them what they want to hear" campaign trick.

Had he left McCains name out of it, it would have been more credible!

JMO, of course

thumbs up thumbs up I have to agree with shippy on this one.
I was reading along, having a hard enough time believing what I was reading to be true, when I read McCain's name. The personal attack, typical of politicians today (make the other guy look bad to make us look good) made the article not believable at all! Very easy to see through this propaganda.

What he says is true, they did say that. Now whether or not the Democratic Party follows this is to be seen.

You have to hand it to Obama tho. He's a sharp cookie! While all the other people running were getting their campaign support from special interests, he built his war chest from individual donations. He's young, smart, and more importantly computer savvy. Now thats hes got his internet donation program up and running (and running very well), lo and behold, no more special interest donations! Others are in no position financially to meet/agree to his position.
