Smoking should be banned in all public places

there are some clubs(private lodges, really) that still allow smoking. At least here in Florida. I am surprised when a person sits down at a table with people smoking, then ask if we could please not smokeat the table, as they do not like smoke!!

If I am at a table with non-smokers, I will of course leave to light up . I limit myself to one a night, anyway!

But don't sit a a table with people smoking, then ask them to put it outfrustrated

I smoke. I don't like to smoke around those that don't, and make it a point not to. Simple, really.

I dont smoke.............never have.........

The idea of banning smoking in public buildings is a good one, and I agree with it....... however, I feel that public buildings where smoking should be banned should be "essential" public buildings..... that is, buildings that are essential for us to conduct daily life....... that means all government buildings, or publically owned buildings such as bus stations, court houses, utility services etc. etc.....and privately owned establishments "essential" to the public such as grocery stores, medical offices, etc etc.....I will go out on a limb here and include restaurants as well.......although restaurants aren't necessarily "essential"......
Bars, pubs, taverns, etc..... are not essential establishments, and for all time have been associated with smoking...... they should be left to the discretion of their owners when choosing to allow smoking or not.....A case can be argued for discimination against persons wanting to work in theses establishments as non smokers, and have to subject themselves to the risks... to that I say, fine, if you want to work at such an establishment and need to shield yourself from the risk, than the owner can provide you an OSHA certified respirator.....
As long as the worker is shielded from risk, there should be no arguement.......and as far as patrons go.... a drinking establishment is not a necessity, so if you dont like the risks, dont go there......

The right of smokers to do it freely has been discussed and it is still stirred by many lads everywhere. This takes us down to the same boiling point: where does my freedom finish?
The realization of the natural barriers of what we call freedom is vital then. Smokers can do it in many places, and they can even have their own places to do so -smoking clubs?-
On the other hand I do not believe in all the bullshitting conclusions of physicians and their "research" as for the danger of second-hand smokers, maybe or maybe not, but I do not either smoke and hate the terrible smell from tobacco impregnated on anything it gets stuck to.

Its the same here in Arizona........I agree with it, but not for bars.... they are non essential establishments for the general public.....
My stand is actually more based on the idea of government determining what can or can not impose on a private business..... I dont agree with it...... The fact that grocery stores, hospitals, and all places where the public "needs" to go to conduct daily life should be included in the ban gets my yes vote...... but why bars and nightclubs?

is it just me who thinks non smokers are always quick to point the finger at those who do smoke? surely exhaust smoke and fumes are far more harmful than the odd whiff of someone elses ciggy but it's ok for the non smoker to jump in their 4x4 (no, i'm not suggesting every non smoker has a 4x4) and spew their toxins into the atmosphere. am i alone in thinking the smoker gets a pretty raw deal?

thumbs up What gets me is alcohol is more dangerous and the cause of more crimes than having a smoke .

i mean you dont see me having 1 too many smokes and getting in to a fight or ending up in jail for the weekend .you dont hear in the papers "man killed by smoking driver"

sort out the priorities and get a ban on alcohol first then target the smokers .
