Last night when we were just falling to asleep there were loud sounds that sounded like gun shots that ecoed through the air. It scared me, my youngest daughter and grandaughter. It was so loud it woke my grandaughter up from a sound sleep. I am not sure it was shots but it was enough to scare us and make it hard to fall back to sleep.

Has anyone ever had that happen to them.

I'm from Detroit...

Of course, there are always vehicle backfires. And at least stateside this time of year, the urge to test out some fireworks after a bit too much to drink...

Yes in the ravine out back.

They're not suppose to discharge firearms within the city limits.

While out hunting mushrooms earlier this year I found a skeleton of an eight point deer by the creek in my backyard. I'm not sure if it got hit by a car and just made it this far before dropping(a good Mille from any road) or if some bastard was trying to poach it, shot it and didn't kill it nor follow it to get it!very mad

What a shame, what a waste!

Beautiful rack of antlers, though.

Here people aren't allowed to hunt at night. I think safety reasons.

If it was a gun, they would have had to be sorta close to your house, or your windows had to open. Guns unless close shouldn't be loud enough to wake you. It really could have been a lot of different things. Unless you hear otherwise, I really wouldn't worry too much about it.

I heard gun shots before when I was robbed when working at a convience store when they were shot at me. My ears were ringing so much never knew if I would hear right again. They were not that loud so much have been farther away but sound does carry. I listened to hear if there were and police sierns but no.

Great opening line for a new story of living in urban terror...urban horror or perhaps a novel of urban romance...%D

LOL! The best US city for hearing nightly gunfire that I've ever lived in was Washington DC; gunfire, police sirens, ambulances etc. just several blocks away. All the years in the military...God, I miss those sounds of gunfire rattling through the night...now all I hear are yelling or singing drunks....lousy songs too! %D

Welcome to Edmonton, the murder capital of Canada. laugh

I've heard gun shots in the city a number of times and rarely any sirens afterwards. The police in the city don't care and won't respond unless someone calls. It's safer to stay put at Tim Hortons until everything has settled and they can show up to hand out fines.D'oh!

I always thought i live in a very quiet area...until few montsh ago when it was an execution - drug cartels - two streets from me....they came in in the middle of night, broke the door and killed the whole family...ever since then the police patrools every 30 min and it still feels quiet...but in a creepy way! makes you wonder who's living behing close doors and where might be next attempt!

Highest number of murders per capita. Edmonton held the dubious title for years, not sure is it still does but it can't be that far off. I think Vancouver is ahead at the moment. It's murder rate had almost doubled in the first few months of this year.

Another good reason to get the hell out of Alberta.applause

Yes, of course because the statistical rate is high. But why so much violence there. Why are people so violent? Is there a lot of poverty, drugs, what? Just wondering. It seems surprising....just some 'little' town out there in Canada somewhere...

I hear them all the time. I just don’t like seeing those helicopters with there search lights looking for the gunmen. Especially when the spot light reflects on the window curtains. Creepy!

We have a higher rate of migrant or transient people here due to our booming economy. People come here to work, make money and then leave. Some never do leave, whether it's because they like it here, jail or buried in a local cemetary.
Alberta's population fluctuates according to oil prices and available work accordingly. Right now it's insane and there are people here making all sorts of money. Along with it there is an iincrease in drug abuse, violence and all the ills that are associated with it.

Lovely place to raise a family!laugh
