You could have post-traumatic stress syndrome and not realize it....My suggestion is to go talk to a trained professional about it....keeping things bottled up won't help...it will only hinder....you need to talk and get things out in order to let them go!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck.....wave hug teddybear hug bouquet

Yes I have been there myself with PTSD...I wasn't in the war but I have had other devastating traumas go on in my life...cheers

Good to see you back safe and sound, my friend!! wave

If you are having nightmares, you need to insist your doctor refers you on.... could be PTS, love!! Other than that, I am not an expert and so wouldn't dream of giving you advice on medical issues.

Good luck.... and look after yourself, yeah?!! hug

Realize your not alone, navy. Lots of your buddies are going through the same thing. Most men just won't admit it - that macho thing- and try to stuggle through on their own. Some can, some can't. Talk to somebody about it. Even talking to your buds who were there with you will help cause their going through it too. They can totally relate to where your coming from. And dude! Don't say shit like that! You can take it. You've already taken a lot more than this in Iraq/Afganistan!

Could definitely be post-traumatic like Hugs said, but it also sounds like a lot of plain old grief. It sucks and I'm sorry for you. For me, dealing with the grief (and a little post-traumatic stress), is a process. When you find your mind heading back to those places, try searching for the good that's come out of it. It's very difficult, so don't think I don't realize how stupid that may sound. But at least in my case I did find little bits of goodness in all sorts of hidden places. I learned, for example, that the human spirit is much more alive than I realized. I'm focusing now on how my tragedy can make me a better person. Hope that helps.

Thank you for serving. It IS appreciated very much.

There are several things that I've done that can help... probably the one that works the best but takes the longest to start working in the short term.. is get yourself a nice relaxing music cd... something soft and calming... and every time you listen to you try to sleep... at the very least make sure you are consciously relaxing while you are listening to it.... What your doing is your programming your brain to shut down when you are listening to the music.. it helps.

Another thing that helps is drinking warm milk or eat turkey both are known to have natural enzymes that help to put you to sleep.

And the last one I use when its been hard core... I take a lobster bath... where the water is so hot you have to ease your way into the bath one toe at a time.... it forces my muscles to relax to the point I'm lucky if I can make it back to my bed before I fall asleep.

I used to get real bad insomnia too... I wouldn't sleep for 5 days in a row... and even then the only time I could sleep was during the day... its bad when your nightmares are real sad flower comfort hug

no... as someone that has suffered through PTSD I've been through counselors and such... the best thing I found by FAR was a counselor that did something called EMDR it stands for" Eye movement desensitization and reprogramming".... it feels funny to do at first but it works... and it works well.... reliving the memories over and over again in your head every day IS a sign of PTSD and you do NOT have to live that way! there are better and more efficient ways of processing the experiences so they don't haunt you for the rest of your life. Please check it out its the only thing that helped me at all.

You are suffereing from post traumatic stress disorder and need to go to a psychologist who specialises in this. There is no other relief for it. I have suffered from it myself for years before I knew what it was.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Woody, talk with your buds or others that have been threw that crap. A councelor may be helpfull but time is the real cure. There is an equasion of 1.5 x the trama time for heal time. Time will not fix anything but just help digest things that have happened.

I know what your going through....yes I agree with the post traumatic stress disorder....I've been there, done that. I've had nightmares so terrifying I was afraid to go to sleep.

The best my Dr. could do is give me 2 prescriptions to take when needed, I can take them together or separatly. He said it's better to knock yourself out to make yourself sleep than it is to suffer from severe insomnia.

I've never been in a war.....I can't even imagine how bad your nightmares are......hug

It may be normal like the doc says, but there is help for it. Anyone who went through what you have would need help. It does sound like PTSD, and there's no shame in admitting it. BTW, drinking will not help, if anything it will make it worse. Alcohol is a depressant, last thing you need now. See a professional, if the dr you went to doesn't take it seriously, find another that will. I don't know about in England, but they are recognising the need here and at least trying to help the guys out, especially after the 3 guys murdered their wives when they got back home. You may have to look for it, but there is help. hug

BTW, thanks for your service. handshake We need a salute emoticon.

I have no clue as to what your pain is but Alabamabebe is right drinking will not help, my personal experence would suggest that it would proloung the pain.
