So far away and yet so close.

Living on a small very dry island things like this are just beyond our comprehension.

Wishing you all the good luck for the future.....

It is one thing to see it on the news & be grateful to not be in that mess. But to actually know someone who has been through it brings on a whole new set of emotions. Trudy, I am at a loss for words. I am feeling such empathy for you right now. Please know that you and your loved ones will be in my thoughts and prayers every day. I am very thankful you are ok and still able to be here with us.

You know that when it all seems overwhelming to you, you can at least come here to us & vent and we will listen.

I'm feeling so helpless that I cannot do more other than keep you & yours in my prayers.

Trudy, I had no idea it was this bad for you. CNN isn't the same as seeing the house of someone you know. I hope things work out and you get to move back in or get a fat check. comfort hug

Wow, I hurt for you.

I can only imagine where my heart would be if it were my house.
I am just down river from you but far enough away from the river that I don't have to worry about it.

Is so bad, flooding the Missouri and Mississippi rivers for many miles, many states.
and more rain coming,
have the waters receded yet ?
So glad you were able to get most stuff out of the house.

Did you have flood insurance?

What type of things did the city do to help people get out of the way? If anything

What is the name of your local paper..? would like to read up on the floods

Glad you made it out ok!!
hug

you guys are the best, am so glad that your all here. thanks for all the thoughts and well wishes. it was a crazy few days with lots of clean-up ahead.

regarding the curtains..LOL was kinda funny at the time, everyone laughed at me when i put them up like that..they all said it will only get a foot or 2 deep. haha it got 3.5' at one end of the house and 4.5', so the water would of got the curtains. besides, they were new..i only lived there 2 weeks before the water took over.

Ras...you can check a couple papers...cedar valley times, cedar rapids gazette, and the des moines register. in the next couple weeks, our local paper is running a big section on it (our local paper is small..hehe). im glad you were out of the way of the flood.bouquet of flowers

The floods hit Iowa's 4 major cities, so its taking alot of time and money to try and recover a little bit. So between the state and FEMA, plus what our local city can do...we are trying to survive and rebuild. Vinton alone lost our electric plant, sewer, fire station and new jail...not to mention another 60+ houses. We cant even compare to cedar rapids...not sure whats gonna happen there.

For me, no flood insurance at the time...only 2 houses within the 4 blocks around me had any...it wasnt recommended then...crazy eh! Im on it next time tho, even though they say it can't happen again...LOL, thats funnylaugh

but your all right, im very thankful that my kids and I are safe..and we really didnt lose much, i still have my curtains..laugh

many many hugs to all of you!!!hug kiss hug

I am not sure about this Trudy, but even if you do not have flood insurance, and you live in a flood plain, you can get flood relief from the federal gov't. Not sure which agency you need to contact...the Red Cross probably knows all of this...prayers are still coming your way....hug
