Nothin' real fierce but still we had some damage with the storms that came through last night and this morning.

I think most of the corn will stand back up, but I'm not sure what to do about the hickory tree at the corner of the yard. The top 30 feet or so broke out of it about 40 feet off the ground. I don't own climbing spikes any more, but I've gotta do something - the "widowmaker" is dangling right over the clothesline and lower fence. And we can't really afford to lose the shade that what's left of the tree still offers. (I don't want to cut the whole sumbitch down.)

Anybody else have any damage?

Hry, I'm not too far from Powell... just a little east of there....and we had a little wind and a little rain, but nothing compares to your damage, just a few tree limbs blown into the yard.

We're abut a quarter of the way up the side of the ridge above Bull Run Creek (in Claxton, just off the Clinton highway) and completely surrounded by timber. I haven't checked the rest of the property yet, but I'm grateful that it wasn't any worse than it was.

Good thing I didn't plant any. Widow maker under the clothes line?
She got you doing laundry now?

Over (as in above) the clothesline. And I'd do laundry if she'd let me, but I think she's afraid her white shirts would come out pink or light blue again. Mostly I don't don't want her to get flattened while she's hanging out the laundry - Or worse yet, to lose the clothesline that she waited 25 years for somebody to put up.

How's it goin', you ol' reprobate?

cheers

B'lieve I've figure out the tree problem without climbing or sawing:

Lower the fence to the ground, take down the clothesline wires and put a couple of well placed .357 mag. jacketed hollowpoints from the top barrel of my Savage into the area that's still intact. With proper shot placement - yes, I am good enough to do it - I think I can even direct which way it falls within a couple of feet. Then I can dig out the chainsaw and finish it up!

thumbs up
