Vitamin supplements

Posted: Jun 30, 2008, 11:55 AM CST
I'm religious about taking my vitamin supplements...

I take all the "good (for you) stuff".

Plus, I use a Hemp facial moisturizer, which I believe contributes to the fact that I have virtually no wrinkles on my face...
thumbs up

I dont take any and my skin, hair, nails and brain are doing fine - some may disagree with the brain bit though

just lots of fruit in my diet and I also listen to my food cravings.........

thumbs up P prefer the vegetables to fruit, (except I love dried fruits with my veges, and lemons, or anything I`m occasionally craving) and I agree with you 100%!

I do believe, that too much regular use of chemical supplements is not too healthy - makes the body lazy to produce its own?... Better to use them for occasional "shock treatments"....or boosters.

Hiya Smoky, lovely to see you hug

Its the chemical thing that worries me too - as well as dishonest marketing practices used by the companies which produce these things - I actually find it really frightening if the truth be told and yes, I also agree that there is the potential for over-riding the bodies own intuitive faculties thumbs up

I was taking fish oils for a time when exams were looming but they made me ill and so I went back to my 'as little chemical as possible rule', the ill feelings went and my positivity somehow re-established itself dunno

What vitamin supplements do you use?

I try to shop healthy and buy the "right" foods, but because of my limited budget and the prices of fresh produce, meat, fish, etc. I can't always afford it, so I use supplements to try and balance out my health.

I use a multivitamin for the "mature" woman, Omega 3 fish oil, vitamin c, and triple flex, (a combo of glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM) for the joints.

I like CQ10, too, Anne. Nice list, btw.

I agree that it's probably safest not to overdue one's supplemental intake...it takes a bit of energy to process all that stuff (kidneys). I think you want to carefully pick and choose the "Best of" selection, and eat veggies/fruit and moderate amounts of various foods as one's "main nutritional course." If you ingested every supplement with allegedly desirable qualities, you'd need to fill a spare room with them!

I know, because I've done that. blushing laugh

Nice list, I did buy the cetrum at WllMart and it was very good, found the generic version called Century (Equate) cheaper...

Exactly!

Nobody needs them unless their diet is deficient. In fact most supplements do not have enough of whatever is needed to make an ounce of difference.

Just a suggestion... do some updating on your herbals...
That herb combo can only be used for short term....
it effectiveness diminishes after two weeks & you're left with a poor fiber supplement only. Cycle it two weeks on, two weeks off.
(It also affects prescriptions drugs(as dose St John's), just in case you're on any)

Have you looked into Super Omega 3-6-9, Ginko Smart, or MSN?
Talk to your doctor... they can explain it to you.

If you can read your body's signals, it's a very effective tool.
For example, when I crave too many sweet things & fruit will not satiate it, I know my chromium levels are off, as well as some of my other minerals. I lose my taste for coffee & tea when my body needs fats. Not to mention, if you feel thirsty, you're already in the first stage of dehydration.
wink thumbs up

Foods now-a-days has less nutrient value than it did when we were kids. Part of the reason is processing of foods for consumers convenience. Once food is processed, it loses a large part of it's value. Vitamins and herbs are no different.

Whole food nutrients are the best but sometimes hard to afford. Whole food vitamins are a great supplement option.

My list... off the top of my head:

Super Omega 3-6-9..........3600mg
Ginko Smart......................2 daily
vit C..................................1500 mg
Osteo Bi Flex triple............4 per day
Eve whole food vitamin.....4 per day
MSM..................................1000 mg
L-lysine.............................1000 mg
Milk Thistle complex..........2 per day
Pancreatin........................1000mg
Resvertrol.........................2 per day
...and I know I'm forgetting something...

Mind you I also supplement my diet with Creatine, protein mixes, & ground golden flax... to name a few.

I avoid processed sugars, all sodas, alcohol, synthetic drugs, and eat as much unaltered or organic food as possible.
