Women past the age of 45 having children?

I noticed that there are several women way past their 40's who still want to give birth to a child.

It is well known that the curve of complications and abnormalities rises steep past the age of 35. Past 40 there is a great risk at Down Syndrome, among others, for the baby. Knowing this I ask myself (and you) at what age one is more selfish than wise when one still wants to give birth?

For example: Dutchessa is 44 years of age and is looking for a partner to have child(ren) with. In Italy there even was a woman past 60 who found a gynaecologist willing to help her having a baby of her own!

What's the limit?

I'd say the limit would be of a very personal nature.
Only the woman (and possibly the man, if there is one directly involved) & her doctor can and should make that determination...

I'm totally against women having children beyond the age of 40. Not only for the risk of health complications both to the mother and child. I also think it's selfish to have a child which you're probably only going to have 20-30 years with if you're lucky.

Then again maybe I'm just biased as my parents had me when they were 42 and both of them were dead by the time I was 27 dunno

Of course, I realise that even if women do have their kids when they're younger. There's still no guarantee of a long life just because they're younger OR even any guarantee they will have a child without any health complications as not everything shows up on the scans
