Its a crow and it looks as if its tail feathers are all gone - its doing a sort of semi flight and a lot of hopping but cant get very high.

I figure its a youngster from one of the many nests in the big tree thats there and am wondering if its parents will still be feeding it and will its tail feathers grow back - what the heck do crows eat? I have a bag of wild bird seeds, should I put some out for it?

any advice please?

Its really skittish Claire, and catching it without a big long net or something wouldnt be possible or I would do that. A neighbour spoke to the RSPCA who said they would come and collect it if we could catch it......... dunno

There are 7 gardens which have a big fence running along the bottom and its going back and to along this - it may be possible to do the towel thing if there was somebody in all the gardens armed with towels but this may just frighten it into falling in the river which is at the other side of the fence...........

Can you get around to the other side of the fence.. and make it drop down into a garden?

oh great Claire, more good thinking thumbs up will possibly try that later.

The poor thing has been out there for a few days now and if its parents arent feeding it, it must be really hungry - even if its tailfeathers do grow back it will take ages..........

Crows will eat just about anything. You are bound to find them feasting at fast food restaurant parking lots. They will eat bugs, worms, roadkill, mice, berries, corn, and a variety of other tasty treats. An adult crow needs 11 ounces of food each day.

The problem is not feeding it, it's catching it....!

But once you have it, anything will do....make it a peanut butter sandwich.....crows are Ueber-scavengers...they'll eat anything.....I've seen a pair of crows following an old lady and her dog around on a walk.....they were waiting for the doggy-doo....and fighting over the juicy bits when it arrived....eeeeeuuwwwww!!....
