Funny you should say that

I got stopped coming home from a party one night for being drunk in charge of a wheelchair

I was pulling wheelies and they were afraid i would hurt myself. They insisted on giving me a lift home. They let me off with a caution but that was fun explaining that to my family

Oh Yeah???

You should see how fast my son goes when he has a flat, wide open space in front of him and my hand is not on the chair handles.

He may not be too bright, but he sure is fast

Sorry to hear about your friend.God, I hate that word!

it's ok.. he often prayed for death.. he's free now.

for crippled, see George Carlin's bit on Euphemisms.. ...changing the name of the condition is somehow supposed to change the condition..

One would think it would only be found to be offensive if it was preluded by f*ckin'....... on the flipside.. would you be less offended if someone said "move it you f*ckin differently-abled person!"

laugh

For the most part.. in the year I lived with Ben.. I saw a LOT of people looking away, feeling sorry, etc.. ..only to see Ben, in response, yell at them to not feel sorry for him or exclaim that it's not like he's got his guts hanging out in front of him. ...and I really hated emptying his piss bag for him.. disgusting.

will you be able to love somebody on the wheel chair??? What you see first when you look at the person on the wheel chair???

Yes. I do actually happen to very much love someone in a wheel chair. Two people, in fact. And I take care of both of them.

What I see first is a person, who needs to be treated like a human being.

taking care of a paraplegic is a lot easier than a quad... Ben was a BIG guy and it took a lot to get him in and out of his chair without hurting him.. ...and I used to have to bitch at people a lot for being rough with him and saying "what? he can't feel it anyway" very mad

..when he was in pain, half of his face would be sweaty.. odd thing. ehhh.. I gotta quit talking about this.. dude had a horrible life for the most part.. he ate more pills than food.. I miss him terribly and 80% of the time I lived there it was heartbreaking.

Definitely.

My best friend is paraplegic. No difference in the kindness, love, respect and compassion that he shows for his loved ones than you or I.

So if there is chemistry, I'm there!

I wouldn't get involved with a person in a wheelchair to begin with...but if I was involved and they became wheelchair bound after the fact...it wouldn't change my feelings

It wouldn't matter if he's in a wheelchair cause to me its what's on the inside that counts awhole lot more.
