I wouldn't think of it as being a hero myself... but as long as I breath.. I will be fighting.

Then you are a hero, Rasgumby. Just fighting and surviving in the conditions and situations you have theorically made for us in the
thread, makes you one!

Being a 'hero' is not just getting a medal or honor....placed on you
because you did something heroic and having people call you a
hero. Being a hero is daily taking your situation and the situations
of those around you making them better, safer, and healthier.

Now you did not say who you were fighting.....but if that was the situation...it is likely this group that is in the country, as occupiers.

But watch. You make the association from here that now the Iraqi
should be doing the same in Iraq. Yes?

WWII...France....my Dads unit was a para unit in southern France behind the German lines by 40 miles. Guess who was helping them?
The French locals and underground. Want to how they did it? So neat.
Everytime the para unit entered a French town....they began to ring the church bells. And would keep them ringing until a German units that were chasing them entered the town....and then they fell silent.
They knew exactly were German units were all the time around them
by these ringing bells when they fell silent.

The French knew that the Americans were there as liberators.

What the far left has attempted to do is to confuse this issue in regard to Iraq. To make it sounds as if the US is occupiers. That mission there was not Sadam Hussien, but the Iraqi oil. If you can picture that Sadam could be just as bad a occupier of Iraq as the Germans were of France. Then you are getting the right picture here. You can have such a thing as state terrorism......where the gov't literally terrorizes it own people. Try Stalin's Russia as a example. Guess what? Sadam admired
Stalin for the way controlled Russia.

As for the oil.....11 of the 12 Iraqi oil contracts went to Europe or the far east. Only 1 went to the US. We could if occupiers had all 12 of them. That is exactly what Nazi Germany did with the Hungrian oil from the Plostie oil filds. It all was headed into Germany and the German war effort. 6 new Iraqi fields that are soon to be opened....and they are placing the contracts up for bids.....I don't know maybe some will come to the US. Think that we will not pay top dollar to secure those contracts? That is how we do business around the world. Our business men that offer kick backs to foreign gov't officals and businesses....get prosecuted not under the laws of that country....but our own.

It is 4th of July, I wish you all good ones.

I would be upset, and would take my weapons and head for the hills, Red Dawn-style.

What I think is a far more interesting question (and a more likely scenario): How would you respond if the tanks and soldiers were US forces and they were aimed at suppressing basic human freedoms under the veil of martial law?

Now thats a scary scenario! I wonder how many U.S. soldiers would actually follow orders to attack other Americans? How many would desert?

I'd desert before I violated the constitution in the name of some administration...

One could only hope. However, martial law might be largely enforced with the use of *private* forces - that is, the nitty-gritty street-level oppression might come from private, subcontracted armed agencies such as Blackwater.

I'd be fine, in i'd make a fortune selling my services to whatever party paid the most for them.

Thats the advantage of a useful "skill set" and after all America is supposed to be the land of opportunity, so i may as well make a fortune out of abject chaos and misery.

After all that's what capitalism is all about.

(notice the irony....before replying!)

As I said in the OP "Of course this is fiction! for the moment.. but it could happen."

Remember back.. Most people thought Pearl Harbor couldn't happen.

When people are so proud as to think it couldn't happen is when it will happen.

Realistic scenarios can be played out.. but yes unlikely.

But as was earlier ask... Put yourself in the place of an Iraqi,
My scenario above is exactly what they are living. THE FEAR.

How would you feel in their shoes?

This thread was intended to make people aware of this, since we have not been invaded, it is so hard for Americans to really understand such fear and loss.

We have no real reason to be over there killing so many.

I also understand how they must be feeling,
If it were here, I would take as many of them out as I could. so why wouldn't they want to do the same to us over there

Do you think it is time to bring our troops home?
dunno

It really makes no difference who is attacking us,, but we are under attack, hundreds of planes over head dropping bombs on us, thousands of soldiers on foot shooting at us, land mines have been placed, tanks rolling everywhere. everywhere, many of our major cities are destroyed, many thousands of our citizens have run to Mexico and Canada to escape the fighting.
we have lost thousands of innocent civilian lives, bodies of our loved ones- even children laying in the streets.

so.. I have 2 questions.

1. exactly how would you feel, what would be going through your mind?

2. What could / would you do to defend our Country?

((IF YOU LIVE IN CANADA- IMAGINE CANADA IS IN THIS SITUATION))

How would i feel??? I would be in fear....terror...

I am not sure that it wouldnt happen here in Canada...

Anything is possible...

but i hope it never does...

Innocent children and people dying...

I just cant imagine what they are going through..

Tears me up inside...

blues sigh crying

In fairness, you are working from some assumptions. I'm sure they'd like to live in peace, no doubt.
I'd question if they loved the Saddam regime though.

You're right.. I think I might have seen a real thinking thread here once,,
a few years agorolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing all of the threads are so realistic and factual!!rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

read more and understand what is bring said here.

But Also.. Just because you can't conceive a notion doesn't mean it can't happen.

Every time in history that we think something can't happen is when it does happen.

But then again, That also was not the reason for this thread.

Is it so difficult to stop and think long enough to visualize hoe you would feel it it were you being attacked.

Wake up Americans.

If that is the case, much easier done.. when we got him out of power, then we pull back to the borders to keep other Countries out and let Iraq reform as a Government, then we leave,, NOT just continue killing and killing.. IF.. in fact our reason was to remove Sadam.

But lets not head this thread in that direction. That would be a completely other thread.

The only weapons of mass destruction in Iraq , Is the US military!

We have no real reason the be there

Not likely to happen with Posse Comtris laws that we have. Many countries don't have them.....when that riots breaks out or violence
begins....like in Zimbowey, China and Myanmar of today.....there is nothing in thier laws that restrict the Federal Government from
using troops on it own people.

US is different. These laws specifically say it cannot be done. Many a
movie has been made where they were 'somehow' aborted or
ceased.....but is pretty much Hollywood. With the number of attroney
in the US.....flooding the courts to file civil right motions for these laws.....the roads would be so jammed anyways....and the tanks could not roll.:-)

This thread is to get people thinking,

See things from the attacked point of view.

And if we continue to make the entire world hate us.. It then becomes ever more likely that an attack can happen here.

So maybe try answering the questions.

Do you honestly think The Iraqi people feel these things any less than we would if we were the ons being occupied??

an attack DID happen here.. it was on 9/11.. remember? ..y'know.. the thing that started the big war over there.. ...oh wait.. I keep forgetting that's just about war profiteering.

but in the "Red Dawn" aspect of it.. the "what if" scenario.. ....well.. if Obama gets elected you can almost guarantee we'll be attacked on a much larger scale. He's got a GREAT plan. Take away the citizens' firearms, and disarm the majority of our military.

Those laws (The Insurrection Act and the Posse Comitatus Act) have been severely weakened under the Bush Regime - specifically by the John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122), which allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America by taking federal control of state-based National Guard units "without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to suppress public disorder."

The law permits for swift federal military action on the streets of America bia bypassing state and local authorities.
