May I respectfully disagree??...what is wrong with discussing together what the activity of the evening will be ahead of time?...sure, he may or may not have an idea of what to do on the evening beyond dinner, but your answer smacks a little of someone in a passive position wanting to be entertained...

I guess it is because we are talking about a first date and the fact that they are the ones that asked me out in the first place. I mean there is nothing wrong with perhaps asking what one likes to do before that evening to get an idea of what to plan, but other then that, he or she (whoever asked the other one out) should have it all planned out. Otherwise for me, if a guy is too passive or undecided on things, it makes me question his self confidence in making his own decisions.

Low self esteem is a big turn off. If someone is not sure about their value within themselves how can they expect someone else to? Confidence, without being too self absorbed, rather a balance is very attractive to me, it is a must.

This is where teamwork /compromising comes into view.

You can call me old fashioned but, I see nothing wrong with both parties discussing the details of the date together.

I also hate it when you take a lady to a steak house or for some spare ribs and you find out after she reads the menu that she is a vegetarian, and she's an animal activist. Tends to dampen the mood a little.
