I'm a 38 year old guy. I'm attracted to women my age, older and younger. Who I'm interested in is about more than any chronological age or even any definable set of life experiences. I've dated women from18 years older (I was 26 she was 44) and to 13 years younger (I was 32 she was 19) and I've found that there really is no rule for the onset of intellectual, emotional or spiritual maturity, at least in my experience.

But...

As part of the long term relationship I'm looking for, I want children and that rules out women who are very much older and it rules out those who are closer or younger in age, have kids and don't want any more.

Ive noticed when looking at guys profiles that quite a few of you still prefer to go for nobody older than themselves and in some cases up to maybe 5 or so yrs younger - whats this about? My own preference is sort of the same age give or take maybe 5 yrs or so - Im not into the toy boy thing but am just trying to understand this attitude of 'definitely not older'

Yeah , it really puts me off when I see a an older guy saying 18 to 65, and he is 90!!
Just my opinion but I would leave the 18 year olds alone!!

I think you make a great point! Zee said a similar thing earlier too - I got together one time with a guy and we had been seeing each other for a year and were really in love but I had to let him go cos he wanted children and I already had three and couldnt have any more - it really hurt - but he is happy now, he did have a child a couple of yrs later.

Talk about learning things the hard way

Trish, "definitely not older" may have soooo many reasons behind it. Although usually i don't give attention to this age thing i have noticed it does matter a lot. Generally the notion of "old" reminds us of wisdom and calm attitude and peace and the desire to just walk instead of running. Those who are not ready for just "walking" will never look for smb older than them coz they feel like hurrying somewhere , doing things fast, risking and not thinking too much before acting.
First of all there needs to be harmony in a relationship and age has its importance....( though there are so many exceptions that this idea might not be taken into account at all haha).

But except what i said above, there can be thousands of reasons for "definitely not older". We all know there are plenty of old ppl who never took care of their health and are practically ruined...i don't blame women of 45 trying to stay away from 50 years old men...(there are some of them who look like 70). dunno

But as smb said so nicely before me...when there comes love all these limits and conditions are simply deletedlaugh

I hope i never get to be confronted with such a problem

well im 18 so the only way i could seriously date an older woman is if she doesn't mind the age diff either. that's hard to find because women think that younger guys have immature attitudes and such.

well as for my view? im all down for an older woman even though my profile doesn't say so. there's nothing wrong with older people. i just suppose im thinking in terms i would go at first is all.

how about you people what u think?
