I going to start the days posting off with a little twist of a hard slider.
Sliders for you non baseball fans is a pitch thrown by a pitcher in our American game of Baseball. They are very hard to hit, because they break into the right hand batter, often 'hand cuffing' his swing. They
look for the most part like 'hopping fastball'....which someday I will
throw out here as well.
But today is hard slider thrown right into the knucks.
Title: Brazil official's Nazi reference rocks WTO talks
Http://new.yahoo.com/s/ap/2008720/ap_on_re_eu/who_quoting_goebbels
So why post this in the Obama thread? Well seems that a left leaning
Brazilian foreign minister, a Mr. Amorim, does not feel that the west and the US are negotiating in 'good faith' in the WTO 7 years of poverty talks with poorer 3rd world countries like Brazil. More on that later.
So he says the following "Goebbels used to say if you repeat a lie several times it becomes the truth." To reporters. Not at the end of the talks but at the beginning of them. Which kind of put a damper on them, considering one of the leading US representative is Jewish and
had family died in the Holocaust.
But reading this reminded me so many times that we have had to face the 'truth' of racism, hear the 'truth' of Iraq war crimes, see the 'truth'
of this Canidate or that Canidate on utube or hoffington post or a kos article. So that is why I am placing this post here in the Obama thread.
Personally, I don't think that Goebbels (the propoganda minister for
Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler) is a good one for setting the moral
bar for what truth is. Anyone that quotes Goebbels, needs to suspect really quickly in my opinion. Half of the things he did for Germany were
disinformation campaigns. So if anyone knows how to tell a lie, it is
Goebbels. Even telling a lie with a straight face, it would be Gobbels.
But that this phrase can stay around in man's thinking and usage for some 60 years belies something else in my opinion. It takes us to the Richard Nixons of the world. It reminds us how often we have been lied to by this person, group, organization, or government. From there we make the quick leap out into the no man's land of determining the truth ...when we see and hear a Presidential press conference, read a gov't report or come to these Obama threads even. That no-man's land is filled with land mines, craters, and other nasties that tends to blow the 'truth' being convened into pieces.
Scott McCellan is good example. For several years he is the press spokesman for GWB and the White House. He resigns and write a
'tell all book' for 15 minutes has hit the media stage with his version of
the 'truth'. And today, 30 days later......is in the archieve files of Hannity and Colmes show. Scott ran into some land mines, craters, and
other nasties out there in telling his version of the 'truth'. Found out that other people had their version of the 'truth' to share.
But let me take this back to Mr. Amorim and Brazil. Mr. Amorim is saying poor Brazil.....it needs western assistance....it is a 3rd world country....that has its own aerospace industry, that is going to make a advance fighter aircraft with Russia, that has its own satellite launch industry, that has become energy independant from OPEC with its ethanol and flex car programs, that is cutting more acres of forest for sugar farming than any other country in the world. And Mr. Amorim is
saying it is a 3rd world country in need of western assistance? Who is aschewing the facts Mr. Amirom?
