Others just like to hear themselves talk.
I don't know, actually. It seems to me that the people who join these forums enjoy talking more than the people who don't. At least, it would seem that way given the large number of frustratingly vague and woefully short profiles I've come across here.
I think you're onto something in terms of forum participants finding other people entertaining. I know that the forums set this singles site apart for me immediately and I relished the idea of being a part of the site community and not just a face in the crowd. I liked the idea of seeing what kinds of people made up the site, and was thrilled to imagine that I could interact with you all and see something of the person behind the pixels.
Is there a correlation between forum enjoyment and RL sociability/openness? I, for one, am pretty personable, enjoy reading, and like learning from others. I consider myself introverted in that I tend to dislike large gatherings (more than twenty people or so) and I usually will not initiate conversations, but I have no problems talking once someone gets me started. Do the people who dislike forums find it difficult to socialize? Perhaps they don't see the point of interacting with people they'll probably never meet IRL.
I believe it is I who likes to hear myself talk.
P.S. I agree with the rest of your post, which I've snipped because that's all I have to say.
