VANCOUVER - A U.S. Army deserter who fled to Canada three years ago has been deported to America to face possible court martial or a return trip to Iraq.

The Canada Border Services Agency confirmed Tuesday that Robin Long was removed from British Columbia. He claimed refugee status in Canada, saying he didn't want to take part in an "illegal war of aggression" in Iraq.

It's looking like Canada is not a viable option for skipping out on your war tours.

Seems to me he could have simply refused to go. Now he's going to jail, I doubt they would or could send him to Iraq or anywhere but jail (if/when convicted)

I agree but hell it wouldn't surprize me if they'd let him go and drop the charge but if that happens what will our american soilders do to him for basically spitting on his fellow country men??????????

Good point, would not surprise me either if they simply gave him a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge and sent him on his way. His fellow soldiers would be another matter. Hopefully, he would disappear and not be dumb enough to go visit his old buddies. I would hate to see a good soldier get into trouble..

They'll do a pretrial hearing (I believe it's an Article 32 hearing) to look at the evidence and based on those findings they will more than likely court martial. If convicted he could face Death, life in prison, fines, demotion, Dishonorable, Bad Conduct or General Discharges. That doesn't necessarily mean jail time but if convicted, it will stay with him as a felony federal conviction for the rest of his life.

Don't join an organization that kills people...if you don't want to kill people!! Don't accept the money to kill people, if you don't want to kill them when it's your time!!

We have no conscription...he chose to join and offered to kill people!! He took the sign-up bonus..and the monthly pay. Why should he have the option to back out when it's uncomfortable??

That's right blame Canada for a poor decision that a soldier made. He could have simply refused to go. But he took the cowards way out and ran away from a problem rather than facing it and involved another country in his crime. Canada did what they thought was right and calling them F***ing stupid A$$holes doesn't make that soldier's lapse in judgement or cowardice any more correct
