If a person writes you an e-mail indicating they are interested in getting to know you or correspond with you – will their level of spelling and correct use of grammar affect your interest and/or your response?

English is not my native language, so basically everything I post have been written in Microsoft Word to begin with, so the worst spelling errors and grammar mistakes are corrected before sending e-mails or posting on the forum.
In my mind I have to at least make an effort if I want people to read what I have written and sometimes I consider it disrespectful to not even try and read a letter through just once before sending, to correct any obvious errors.
Why should I use my time to respond, if the author hasn’t even made an effort to write just a slightly bit civilized?

Funnily enough especially people whose native tongue is English tend to write like they were 1st graders; and other foreigners like myself try a little harder and make fewer mistakes, probably because we have to be more conscious when using this language.

What say Thou, o’ mighty boarders of CS – am I OCD’ing or just paying attention to details?

Of course I rely on good spelling and punctuation to choose my partners...after all...that's the main thing that they can spell and punctuate...as for being a good, loving, caring person, I'm sure it's all in the spelling!!!!!

I am very critical of a persons writing skills as long as that person it me. For having a BS in English Literature my skills pretty much suck and my spelling is among the worst on CS. So when it comes to other people, I have no grounds to be a critic.

Than god for spell check.... I just wish we had it on this site.

Now back to writing my novel.

hmm... no spelling or grammar doesnt matter much.

If its considering someone as a romantic interest , it would be very impressive if he is a good communicator and can express himself well. Its an added feather to the charm cap.

Nevertheless, to be expressive , it can be in words , by actions or even simple jestures and acts. So .. it neednt be written excellence perse.

Its not how he is saying something that matters but his sensitivity in what he is saying.

But one thing is NOT impressive ... swearing , shunning others or abusing .. now with the perfect spellings and grammar thats still not good enough.
