Arthur420man: I always thought the Mayan theory talked about a "Great Awakening" when man would know his true self and what not. I didn't think it actually spoke of the end of the world. But hey, I could be wrong. Imagine that. :P

In all honesty, I've dropped the Christian idea of the end of the world. Well, the conventional idea anyway.

I saw something on solar flares on the History Channel one time. It said the next predicted giant flare was around 2011. This flare would beat away our magnetic field just enough to fry all electronic devices. I imagine it would mess up our climate and ecosystems for awhile as well. And as we all know, an end to all electronics would effectively "end the world" as we know it today.

Personally, I think our race has been a scourge to the planet since we began to industrialize. If Earth wants us gone, then we'll be gone.

Huzzah and hoodalolly for my first post! Heh, who knows if there will be more.





Actually, I did read something about this before. The Mayan's were supposedly entrusted with the prophesy where The Earth's Sister Earth planet comes around every so many thousands of years and lines up with each other and @ that point in time every human relives every thought/action they ever had as well as the consequences of each good or bad and are both judged and forgiven @ the same time. In addition, when t he Sister Earths are not any longer in alignment, then each is admonished to use the experience to live the remainder of their lives out with enlightenment they received during the link of the Sister Earths. They used an example of someone telling a homeless person to get a job. The consequence of the person telling that was that the homeless person committed suicide. Don't know if it will happen that way or not but was food for thought.

I look at it this way:

If the world ends in 2012, I don't have to go to work anymore, pay off my student loans, take my car for an oil change, blah blah blah blah blah.

Actually: its an interesting correlation between their smaller society and our larger one. The Mayans, basically, grew to have a very large population and they outstripped the ability of their land to support them. They used up every bit of natural resource they were capable of using till Bada Bing!! Gone...so...not necessarily *stupid* but...very short sighted...they were too busy building temples and sacrificing virgins to see *the end* coming....dunno
