gingerb: OK. Just spent the last hour in the very pleasant company of De Mello, ( old videos), and it freaked me out a bit how much we thought alike on all the important ( to my way of thinking), issues........

A lot of my life philosophies would probably have some from the same or similar sources........

No wonder the pope thought he was a bad influence......

Thanks for the reference HJ. I don't feel so much of a freak now after all. It surprised me to find out that instead of mostly getting it wrong, I was actually mostly getting it right for a change.......

Who is DeMello Ginger ? wave

its great to hear you are getting it right anyway......... teddybear

I always thought that my thinking was so outside the box on stuff like this that there was no hope for me ever "fitting in" or finding anyone who thought like me. Now I can actually laugh at that very idea.....

There a series of three of these videos of lectures by Anthony De Mello who was a Jesuit Priest with some broad minded and very sound philosophical ideas on love, life and reality that our present pope didn't take too kindly to...

Here is the link to the one on love........

Really well worth spending a half hour or so with. The links to the other two are on that same page where this video is shown......

Thanks Ginger, I will look them up in the morning. Have you heard of the Jesuit guy Pierre De Teillard De Chardan? his works melted my soul too - he has an amazing treatiste on love which I found to be imbued with the purest of thoughts - that, coming from an Atheist is quite something but I do have to admit to a respect for some of the Jesuits for the simple reason that their persuit of knowledge, purity and truth yielded many rewards...........

trish123: In short, aside from the sex stuff, what turns you on about the opposite sex?

His interest in me does, with a couple of footnotes though - the person is confident enough in himself and has a sense of humour.

trish123: how do you define attraction? would the abscense of particular qualities be a total deal breaker? and which qualities/characteristics do you see as potentially being completely over the top?

His mind...I am attracted to someone who is intelligent and able to keep the conversation going, besides the SEX of course..giggle

A very basic prerequisite HJ has to be that they are at least interesting, can at least bring personality to the table - male or female dunno

Just "my" experience. When I have paid attention and attempt to understand those that are highly rejected by others, I find to most wonderful human beings inside..wink

The "basic prerequisites" demanded by so many, "may" be the reason so many are single and have been for so long..wink

Just a thought of mine..grin
roseofsharon: I don't have a long list of expectations, just the basics really.....

Sense of humour.
A kind heart.
Intellect.
Respectful.

My thoughts, also. I would add- no being mean or saying mean things about other people, no crudeness, no calling me by enderements when we first meet- don't know me yet, don't call me the little woman either.cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers

Im not thinking 'demands' HJ, its more a case of being interested in a person in the first place - they have to have the ability to attract, to have something which will entice if you like - the spark - and after that the ability to keep your interest dunno
KrazieStill: It changed for me as I got older. I got past the "I'll go out with her cuz she's hot" to the personality (e.g., there's no way I'd go out with her) because we have absolutely nothing in common. I think if the personalities are similiar thats what works for me.

Good point I also, use this.

Suggestion... Next time you walk into a cafe and see some guy you are NOT attracted to sitting alone, ask him if he is waiting for someone or if you could join him. You may find a wonderful friend..wink
