Time is the only infallable test of a relationship, but I suspect you are asking how to know sooner rather then later.

If that's the case, I would have to say congruence, does the person's actions match their words,

if not, there is likely an element of disharmony in your budding relationship,

and it's not to be trusted until the source of the disharmony is sussed out

and evaluated to be nonthreatening.
