I have been inspired, which is usually dangerous.

If you chat to a person via email, here and you want to progress to the next stage of conversation, would you give your phone number out?

YOu see, I do, because I like conversation, with a person I would like to get to know better.

I ask this, because some people are reserved about giving out details, if a person is loathe to give out phone numbers, then I do not take them seriously and cut contact.

I am an oddball like that, but why waste time and not move it forward to the next level?

Thoughts please....

I do think it should be a natural progression, to chat on the phone having established that you both want further contact.I dont give my home number but do give my mobile. After all if you meet someone when you are out for the evening and you get on well and want to see each other again you exchange numbers right?

I agree Vonney, I fail to see how a relationship can develop just over email.

I will give my mobile number out if I want to chat further, if I ask to have a conversation, then I will do it at my expense.

If a person does not want to have a conversation then they are not for me.

I like to keep my life simple.

I agree, is also nice to have a voice to put to that person also to be able to hear the nuances when we speak, humour or teasing do not often come across well in type.

Also I believe that if a person is serious about finding a partner then they will have no problem with handing out a number.

When Flower and I started to have contact it was by written message and IM. We both wanted to hear the others voice (for me it was because she is fluent in 3 languages and has lived in all 3 countries long term.Would she have a French accent? Spanish? English?)

So we made that call. One call.Only one. Then we knew we had to meet.

And the rest,as they say,is history................smitten grin

Clever lady your Flower, hi gongman, I agree, it is important to have chats, to hear voices, usually for me, it is after a few IMS and emails.

It is such a lovely story, yours and Flowers, makes me want to have hot chocolate and snuggle and say 'ahhh' alot.

cheering

As a guy it is no problem for me to give out my phone number to someone that I would like to move forward in a relationship with. Some women I have met on here and other sites feel it is too dangerous to give out their number. You are right, then what is the point of joining a dating site? Is it for the stimulation forums?.... maybe. Then again it gives people the wromg impression of dating siites and the question always comes up.... do people really date on these sites?

Hi Zee

I agree, I do wonder why women do feel it is dangerous to give out their numbers?

A cell phone number can be easily changed. I had a guy, not from here who continually called me, simple, I blocked him from my email, changed my number, he cannot get hold of me, I emailed his ISP and the admin of the site to inform them of his persistent contact.

Well Zee as I said in my earlier post, we exchange numbers with ppl we meet in RL and we probably havent chatted to them as much as we will have to someone we have been exchanging im and mails with. Thats part of the advantage of mobiles as opposed to home numbers.

I agree, you get to know the person a little better and why waste time?

Now stop demanding for my phone number...I told you can only contact me via telepathy.

I carry 2 cell phones on my service.... one my family and friends have which will never change and one I give out that is changed every 6 months. I feel if you can't make the friends and family phone in a few months then you will eventually lose contact with me.

Sensible man? confused

Hi Sommer and Vonney,

I will give out my mobile number if I like you
I may want to go on and meet them.
As you say it's easy to buy a new sim card.

Voices and the way we speak to each other
gives you so much of a person.

Nobody gets my home number!!!

I will give my home number out, after I have a sense of what he is like.

I think you can tell if a person is being upfront.
