I never was apanked as a child and I am one of 8 children. I have raised my children to except what they have done wrong and deal with it. My youngest daughter has nearly driven me insane with her antics. Now that she is 17 she is finally starting to grow up some. In my house its "omg whats she done now".
My mother always said "kids have to misbehave somewhere and its best if they do it at home"

Never ever hit a small individual. What does it teach them, that it is okay to hit another.... I have worked with kids who have been hit by so called good intentioned adults and seen the damage it causes and they then go on to hit....viscious circle. It is never right to hit another whether for discipline or any other reason.

KMD I do not disrespect you but I would love for you to come and see some of the kids that have been subjected to corporal punishment and you would see where I am coming from. The little girl that backs shaking into the corner when she can see a man wearing a belt.

Have been in the USA and we were amazed at the difference in the way the kids behave and get what they want. Kids over there tend to get what they want much easier than ours here. Here most teens work in some way for the Xboxes, bikes and cars etc. My father who lives in Florida but is English loves taking his grandkids my kids to work with him as he is pleased as punch when people remark how well behaved, good mannered, polite and humble they are...

If my kids are out eating etc with him in the states and get a little loud, silly, show sloppy table manners all he has to say is we are English children remember that and they pipe right down.

I have also worked with children who are the victoms of their environment.
One time family services steped in to remove the chilren from the home, the woman asked the 3 year old boy if he would like to go with her and he said he would love to.
I personally think many of the problems with children today is parents don't take the time out of their busy lives to enhance good values, express love and guidence.
Counceling is a positive way of getting help with dealing with your childern. I'v had my childern into counceling over the years when I felt I couldn't handle a situation to the best of my abiltiy. jmo
