Compare this to Bon Jovi's 'this far left feels right'
Procol Harum and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra did it in '71. It's nothing new, and really there's very little in rock that is. Pretty much every rif, lick, drum beat has been done before, and a lot of it has been "borrowed" from blues, country and other frms of music.
I do like the first half of your list, but the second half isn't as raw or energetic, and the bass of Cliff Burton, who was innovative and had his own style, helped make Metallica what it used to be. Now they're a bunch of corpoarte monkeys on stage going for the cash, whining about people downloading their music and likely demanding only green jelly beans and red M&Ms.

I lost all respect for them around the time their self titled or black album came out.
As far as the best heavy metal album goes, there are too many acts out there to really pick just one. A lot of diversity in what people consider heavy metal or classic rock. Where does each band really fit in, and why? I don't consider Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd to be heavy metal, yet many do, even though they're two of my favorites.
