hey, you meet someone on this from another country.. would you bother learning their language just for the sake of it?? although the other person speaks english perfectly...

Yes. Out of politeness and respect and in case I ever visited their country or got deeper into a relationship with them.

its part of their culture,
besides all doors open if you try communicating in the native tongue.
