For sanity's sake.....

give us break will ya?

It seems that it has become the modern day plague to dissect, put in numbers, place the percentages, and bring out a formula on every aspect of human existance on this planet.........

Dump the statiistics........flush them down the loo....

people get married....

some stay married happily for the rest of thier life....

others don't.

So what if they are red, blue, green, yellow or beige?

What is there to prove anyway?

That some are more apt to stay married then others?

What there to conclude in all of these statistics?

Do you really care?

I recall in stat's class many years ago the hypothesis was made that industrialized countries have the highest per centages of schizophrenia.

Be that the case, do smoke stacks cause schizophrenia? confused

It's been removed on account of Barna getting so much flack over it what you have posted is a "New one" made to replace the old one (1999)
The first one was an honest one the second one well judge for your self
"All adults 33%" that is well below the us average making the second survey stink

To generalize more...don't most atheists just live together instead of getting married? I wonder how many of those relationships have gone under....

Disclaimer...I have nothing against athiests. I am against people propagandizing to further their cause though...

Good point. Give me enough time and I can make a set of numbers say whatever I want...

Your "statistics" give a negative connotation as displayed:

Variation in divorce rates by religion:
Religion % have been divorced
Jews 30%
Born-again Christians 27%
Other Christians 24%
Atheists, Agnostics 21%

Could read:

Jews: 70% *not* divorced
Born-Agains: 73% *not* divorced
Other: 74% *not* divorced
Atheists, Agnostics: 79% *not* divorced.

The first 3 actually have, you know..."standards" that people must live up to...of course they may have a slightly higher failure rate, all other things being equal.

Atheists/Agnostics, having no such standard to live up to will equal slightly lower failure rate when addressed in these terms but: I guarantee they have other problems besides religion.....

Besides being Godless freaks that will burn in hell for eternity....

LOL! J/K......I just love to argue...

Hey people found this and thaught it might be of intrest

Barna Research Group, 1999-DEC-21,

Variation in divorce rates by religion:
Religion % have been divorced
Jews 30%
Born-again Christians 27%
Other Christians 24%
Atheists, Agnostics 21%

Ron Barrier, Spokespersonn for American Atheists remarked on these findings with some rather caustic comments against organized religion. He said:

"These findings confirm what I have been saying these last five years. Since Atheist ethics are of a higher caliber than religious morals, it stands to reason that our families would be dedicated more to each other than to some invisible monitor in the sky. With Atheism, women and men are equally responsible for a healthy marriage. There is no room in Atheist ethics for the type of 'submissive' nonsense preached by Baptists and other Christian and/or Jewish groups. Atheists reject, and rightly so, the primitive patriarchal attitudes so prevalent in many religions with respect to marriage." 2

StopTheReligiousRight.org had some scathing comments as well:

"We hear an awful lot from conservatives in the Bible Belt and on the TV about how we all should be living. Certainly a culture that teaches the conservative religious values of the Christian right must have clean living written all over it. And lots of ripe fruit from their morally superior lives abounding."

"It doesn't. Far from it. People that talk the loudest may be the ones walking the slowest. Joining its history of Biblically correct bigotry and discrimination, it is an area with the highest divorce, murder, STD/HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, single parent homes, infant mortality, and obesity rates in the nation. As a region, the Bible Belt has the poorest health care systems and the lowest rates of high school graduation." 12

Sin runs rampant in the "world", worse all the time. The bible predicts it so I believe these things will continue to get worse. That new movie, FireProof, might be helpful for those following Christ. Also, just those that would adhere to the commitment of marriage. The movie, I understand, is about "not ever leaving your partner behind". As they do in the military?? No man left behind? It made such wonderful sense to me. The ones we love are the ones we neglect the worst sometimes. If I am ever blessed with a mate again, I will pray that God remind me of this, never leave my man behind, and never put anything ahead of him. We will both need to keep God at the Center, but the bible is clear on how husband and wife are to love one another. I guess it is a matter of following the instructions. Instead of trying to figure it out on our own, read the bible. That's the instruction manual for all of life. I've yet to "not" find whatever help I need in His Word, it's all there.

Well we both know there isn't enough time, let alone interest here:) for me to teach you the whole bible. It is something each person must chose to either believe or not. How bout you look it up and see if Im lying. That saves me a lot of work:) On the other hand, if led, I will show folks where I get my "material":) if I see an honest desire to know:)

It isn't something the intellectual, natural mind can wrap itself around either though, it's a Spirit thing. I won't discuss the Word with anyone I don't feel led to. Your stand is clear:) and I respect that being your choice. I also do not believe in telling folks "I know the bible is Truth". I "believe" it is and I can tell them how it has changed my life. But "prove" to the unbelievers?? I couldn't nor would I waste my time trying.

My comments on marriage stats or anything else here is simply my belief.
