hollandgirl: Some one told Oprah Winfrey that they were colour blind.
I loved Oprah's answer; Oh your colour blind? I can see cleary that your white.

Many years ago while living in California a black man wanted to date me. We dated a little
I told him that I would not be able to stand it when people would be staring and pointing fingers.
It would hurt me too much, if I cared about him.
At that time is was indeed a rare sighting to see a black man and a white woman or visa versa. (Where in the 70th. here)
My sister having married a Indo,(half Dutch, half Indonesier), was furious at me. You asked him for dinner etc.
The thing was he understood me very well.
Today I would feel different but it is another time now, or is it?
There will always be people frowning about a mixed couple I know.
How do you feel about it?

Who cares? This is such a dead issue and is revived from time to time on the forums. I have dated men from every race/religion/ethnic background and some were nice, some weren't. If you live in a provincial racist city/country then I guess its a problem. In Los Angeles it never has been.

Harleyquinn: I think in a loving relationship it is 2 souls that innertwine.

Tell me, what color is a soul?

Well said...as was Desmond's answer....it's who a person is inside that counts. Color is literally only skin-deep.

But there are some places where this is harder than others, and people like my parents would still frown upon it. However, with the right person, frankly I wouldn't give a damn. cheers

Really? I think at this point in my life the people around me would be glad to see me settle down with a goat if that's what would have me. rolling on the floor laughing

I've dated guys of all races and none of those relationships worked out but the reason they didn't work had nothing to do with the colour of their skin or other peoples perceptions but cultural and religious differences.

I think recent generations have no problem with mixed relationships and it is no-where near as big a deal now as it used to be.

In regards to the future of the human race, Genes for darker traits tend to be dominant so I'm quite sure in a few hundred years there will be very few white people. I think this isn't a bad thing though genetic diversity is what keeps us advancing as a species.

Predjudice and hate are bastard denizens of ignorance.

They know no racial or caste boundries.

Predjudice is not a plague of the caucasian only!!

I have a buddy that believes that we will never get rid of it until we interbreed so much that we all become 1 color. Some religions buy into this also, not the breeding thing, the all 1 flavor thing.

The sadest part is that we have all 1 flavor status in the 1 thing that we NEED to support, the thing that supports(and should unify) us all...

Earthling(ness)!!!

It seems to me that the people with children are the ones that should be promoting this the most ardently?

I don't believe we should all be the same...I mean being of a different race and culture is something to be proud of...and something to embrace...however where we fall down..is respecting differences and appreciating the commonalities among us all that make us human....and yes I agree that racism is not just a caucasian thing....it exists all over the place and maybe the key does start with our kids...teaching them respect for all different races...and also I think it lies with the education system to truly educate kids on other races than their own....so that stereo-types have a chance to be eradicated....wine

I think its more difficult for us because we know ahead of time what the guy is really like. I was with my ex-bf for 3 years and the cards kept telling me he was confused and hiding something. Finally at the end when it started to get serious my intuition told me to go to a local (los angeles) website I never went to and to look at a particular section. The feeling was really strong and I finally got out of bed in the middle of the night and found him trolling for homosexual sex. Nothing this dramatic usually but the cards have told me so much in advance.

The only all sameness I'm advocating is earthling(ness).
It was my buddy that I was paraphrasing with the "all 1 color"

Variety IS the spice of life and also what keeps balance.

But not only to change it in our children, but for them.
They inherit whatever we leave them, good, bad, ugly, livable or
otherwise(or unwise).

The key is us, if we don't start to change ourselves, how can we expect the kids to be able to?

You know, the old "be the change you'd like to see". I think that was Ghandi, WHAT an example of being the change!!!!handshake cheers hug

I would feel different myself today and not care.
Only asked have things and people changed now compared to the 60th-70th and from the answers I see they have and that is great!

I would feel the same if my new love would be oriental or native.
As a matter of fact went out with a native from my next town.

Harleyquinn: And thank you too sir
I mentioned this the other day or yesterday, tracing the mitochdrial DNA( passed down from the female) researchers have found that we all go back to a single female from Africa about 100,000 years ago. So technically we all have African ancestry.

I watched a show on PBS television awhile back, it was about ancestry. They traced the roots of Oprah, Chris Rock, I think Morgan Freeman and several other celebrities(African) and they all had caucasian blood(genetics) also. I mean, even 2 glasses of water setting next to each other for 100,000 years are bound to share a few molecules sooner or later.

The sooner we could all realise that we are all humans/earthlings and get over it, the sooner we could start focusing on something that is actually important. SHANTI

I, also do not see race, only the heart and soul of the person I am seeing. How that person treats me is more important to me I have and am currently dating outside of my race/culture. I do not care what others think it is their problem. What should matter to all is that we are happy together and thart we treat each other right.

You are right about the Mitochondrial DNA also known as Mitochondrial Eve is the mother of all modern humans. The paternal side of all modern humans has been traced back to the Mongolian Stepps and Turkey areahug hug

Do you want me to tell you the truth as my opinion, and have most come down on me for my opinion? Or lie, and tell you that it don't matter, and by doing so is not being honest?dunno
