For me, it was a form of personal expression. I'd wanted one since I was 20, never knew exactly what I wanted and figured I couldn't take the pain...I got my first one at 40. I thought I was done after the Phoenix, but I'm considering adding a sun between my shoulder blades, and slightly below them, for it to be flying toward. Then I'd be done for sure.

I think that a well-done tattoo, esp with color, is beautiful.

Yes, they do...I've seen the ads for it. I've seen enough in real life, though, not to need to watch it. When I was going through my last divorce, I became friends with the owner of the tattoo parlor where I had the sun/moon one done...he's also the one who did the Phoenix later...and I hung out there a lot to get away from my (still then) husband and have a peaceful place to go. I saw a lot of them done when I was hanging out there.

Kinda play on wearing my heart on my sleeve. I like the idea. If I don't find it too painful I'd love to get Pure Imagination lyrics or some lines from The Song of Solomon on my back, as a whole back piece. I think that's a bit ambitious but hey! I can dream!
