MindyQ: Legal minefield? Maybe I'll just stick to London. I am going to Europe in the summer with my girlfriend. We are going to London OR Paris. I speak pretty good French (sort of). We can only afford one city and we choose whichever one that our dollar goes the furthest in. I know France uses Euros. Does England use Euros or are they still using the pound?

*runs to google to look*

*pry for strong dollar by the summer*

England uses the British Pound Sterling.

The USD.(United States Dollar)Goes pretty far in Australia.
I believe also in Brazil.

Mindy.Do you have a car?If so what kind?

London and the whole of the UK uses the pound, its a wonderful city, incredibly cosmopolitan, but like all cities has its bad areas, historically its oozing with great places to visit. But, its also very expensive. More than anywhere else in England. And most people there speak English to some degree!!!!!! And has the best night life in Europe or so I have been told.

Paris is a beautiful city, but for me, I have to say that I was not that impressed, historically it has some beautiful buildings not least the Eiffel Tower, as long as your good with heights lol. Language can be a problem, Parisian's tend to expect you to speak French and can be a little condescending unless your fluent. Night life can be fun, but quite expensive.
your plane ticket will range a good bit depending on the time you go. i flew from atl to ams and spent 10 days including christmas and new years. the air fare was about $1100. i think i spent about 3K total and that was having a place to stay free of charge. debauchery can get pricey.
but in keeping with the theme of this thread, i did travel there to see someone i met here on CS.

Whichever city has the best exchange rate is the city I'll choose. I know the people in London speak English, who said I didn't? ha ha . It's too bad Paris is so full of French people.

I still have two months until I have to make reservations so I will decide in January or February.

Thx for the help. I'm going to work in a few minutes so I have to go.

MindyQ: thx. I have to have a passport to travel to Canada now, don't I? I think I saw on CNN you can go to Canada without a passport, you just can't come home without one. ha ha. That would be a bummer.

note.....I just woke up....that's why I spelled "pray" as "pry" on my last post.

I don't know what's going on with that...I know they extended out travel by car to the U.S. with a passport until January 2009 which means I better get my butt in gear and get mine...I know you do flying to the U.S. right now require a passport from here but I'm not sure if the U.S. laws have come into effect for driving here yet requiring a passport....wave wink teddybear hug bouquet

I believe it's this summer that you'll need a passport, Hugsy...June or July if memory serves.

I was thinking of attempting Bob Dylan's recommended form of identification when crossing the border, but those damn border guards are so fussy about that kind of thing...laugh hug

They let me in to the US with just a birth certificate and drivers licence. I was in the US four times this year and no problems.

The possibly apocryphal story is that when asked for identification (I think it was purchasing alcohol?) Bob dropped his pants.

I guess so.

My son's 23rd birthday yesterday. So lots of clening in the afternoon, food shopping, cooking, playing hostess.

Interestingly, it was I who suggested, ney, demanded music to be turned onlaugh (these young people today...way too serious!professor)

And in between, some relaxing.wine

How about you? A bit more rested after the hard study week?cool
