In my book, a 'racist' is someone who wishes, wants to bring harm to another race(ethnic group) or Race be it by physical or biological means. A race or Race wiped out of existence in anyway, by any method is , Imo, a loss for Humankind as a whole, as we were created, separate and truly unique in our collective 'gifts' to make this a better world for all... I do not think that Humankind benefits at all from 'whatever makes you happy' of each individual. Too selfish, too egotistical...too dangerous.

More accurately, a racist is someone who believes that race is a determining factor in their behavior and attitudes. It's possible to be a racist without wishing to exterminate the race in question. Some racists believe in separation, for instance. It's also to be a racist if one believes a particular race is superior by virtue of its race.

Would depend on your reasons. If didn't want to date them because (for example) you believe that all or most members of that race are evil or stupid, then yes, you're a racist. If, however, you don't want to date members of a particular race for esthetic or emotional reasons (for instance, Nubian princesses intimdate you), then that wouldn't be racist.

To limit oneself to dating wholly within your own race is to my mind a display of racism, as the only reason can be be read into such a stance is that you are making an assumption that those outside your race are a lesser person.

To answer the op, i respect people's preferences, and could understand why say, a muslim, may not want to get involved with a christian. I could also understand, why an american from bel air, may find it hard to date a masai herdsman. Culture is something that exists, and one doesn't always fit with another.

That being said, a racist, is a person who believes they are superior to other people of different races, because of their skin colour.

No I don't think so although I would date outside of my race and have dated a couple of men from different ethnic groups. Really it comes down to motivation. Some people are most attracted to those within their own ethnicity and others might look at the possible ramifications from dating someone from a vastly different culture.
Unfortunately there is still quite a bit of racism that people have to contend with out their and you might have to deal with that. Sometime prejudices within your own family.

Isn't it strange how "race" is defined solely on the basis of skin tone. There are plenty of other genetic variables that don't seem to matter. One can be short, tall, thin, fat, whatever, but it is the amount of pigmentation in the skin that defines a "race" and leads to racism.

Personally I think we are all memebers of one big single human race, which includes a lot of variation for all traits.

Sometimes the reason for such preference isn't really racist.
People learn what constitutes "attractiveness" within their own culture at a young age.

Later they're pretty much stuck with those concepts.

Then maybe they have been brought up with racist overtones.

I have no problem with cultural or even religious differences, but those that have a closed mind for anyone that is not of their race has by that definition to be racist.

HoweverI wouldn't seek out anyone due to their race. I know of Blacks that will only date whites andvice versa. I know those that only date their own race. I am more readily attracted to hispanics and whites, but I am not exclusive.e an oriental...until I could account for all my cats though!!
