A while back I was emailing a lady I met on here who said she was from New York. She liked my profile and sent me a flower. She was kinda young, very pretty and said she really liked older guys because they are more romantic. Ok so I figured WTH why not see where it will go. In her first replay to my email she said she really wasn't from NY but from Russia. No SH1T I knew she wasn't from NY by her horrible English. She wanted to come to the USA and get married ASAP. Learning this I told her straight out I would pick her up from the airport, provide her a place to stay, help her get a job, provide her with food, transportation and English lessons but I would not be sending her any money.
Two emails later she had already traveled to Moscow to catch a flight to Washington DC and sent me a copy of her complete flight itinerary. At this point I'm thinking maybe this is for real. oops, not so fast. Her next email she said that she didn't realised she needed a round trip ticket to get a visa and she didn't have the money for the return tkt. She needed $900.00 to pay for it. She said she spent every last ruble she had including all she could borrow from her family to get this far. At this point I felt it was time to remind her that I told her what I would and wouldn't do for her. I never heard from her again. Was I being cruel? Should I have sent her 900 bucks?

The other day I happen to be looking at a site I visit now and then http://www.womenrussia.com/blacklist_summary_a.htm#Archive1
And there she was using the name Alena Ovtchinnikowa. She told me her name was Iraida Anphalova. I decided to check that site under every letter in the alphabet and found her pics listed with no less than 22 different names from 10 different locations. Other guys had posted letters they got from her which were verbatim copies of the ones she sent me. One jerk actually sent her $1150.00 and a second payment of $2,000.00 The last he heard from her was a story she told him of how she was robbed on the street in Moscow and all his money was gone.

So the stories vary a bit, but my experience with scammer are much the same. One guy lived in California but just flew to Nigeria to get his son cured there from a heart disease.
We chatted on and off for a few weeks before he asked me to cash in some cheques for him.
One guy was from Nigeria but acutally lived in Cambodschia and were ready to relocate.
And one guy wrote a flattering email telling me he lives in Wisconsin but is on his way to Africa on some contract or other.
We chatted once or twice and then I didn´t see him online for a few days. Next time I said hello, he actually asked me who I was and if we had chatted before.
And sure all the guys were good looking and much more younger than I am.
I´m really asking myself: Do I lokk that desperate that they think I´ll fall for every bull....they are telling me?
Or perhaps it´s because I´m blonde.
I just don´t know.
Problem is - and not only for me I think - that I´m very careful now and maybe "real" people who want to chat or might be annoyed.
But there seem to be a lot of scammers around and so I prefer to be
"better safe than sorry".

Oh..You were not being cruel. And I think there´s a better way to spend 900 bucks :-)

Hi ChrisMarie, You were the target of what is referred to as a "419" scam. Those are mostly from Nigeria. 419 refers to the police code violation # for this type of scam. You may want to take a look at this site it has a wealth of info about this scam. http://www.419eater.com/

Mine was the typical romance scam where they target older men and women too I guess to con them out of money for a VISA or Plane ticket to "Come to You" because they have waited to meet someone like you all their life, yeah right!roll eyes

Not being cruel man, unless you like throwing money in the toilet , I will give you my address and send me the money at least it be put to good use besides drugs or something, the same chick contacted me a week ago ,I know who you are talking about, sent her packin man, no simpathy for that crap , we spend our time and efforts on here because, we like the folks we talk to, we are lonely and don't like hangin in the bars anymore or would just like to meet a cool chick or fellow , depending on your flavor, to go out to a movie or dinner with we don't need that kinda crap on our site where we all work hard to keep it decent, they can just take their dumb ass to an alley in Saigon and have at it, WTH maybe thats where their emailing from.....you did right brother.....later

Yes, it gets a bit dis-heartening when one receives never-ending mail and what looks like a nice long chatty letter ... and ALWAYS ends with their private email address! I just delete and block those now after checking the bottom line first! Getting pretty tiresome, I must say.

Howcome SO many guys write atrociously? .. spelling mistakes and small "i"`s .... is this a sign of scam? I would think that most educated people know how to write properly?confused

I got one of the weirdest mails this morning... I can not really figure it out, as it probably is not possible.

But in there somewhere it talked about living off a woman.

I am still not sure if it was an accusation or an offer, I choose not to venture further as I am being busy as it is. She did not enclose an email so I could not anyway - I only correspond to those with a Yah00 address... laugh

OOby Dooby, I get those emails too all of the time. Alot of them are Russia. I report them as soon as get one of these. Alot of them sound good to be true. In alor cases they tell you a story that their mother or father was killed in an accident. There is a site that has a list of ladies who are scam artist. They tell how these ladies operate and what aliases they use. As soon I find the site, I will sent it to you. Some of them go as far, putting photos of movies on their profiles, saying that their photo.

This educated guy was not smart enough to post his reply. In a world of LOL, BBW, OMG etc. one should not be criticized for not making a capital I. We get typing fast and are not always perfect with the grammer.

Maybe the I didn't get capitalized because we are lazy, in a hurry, not as educated as the next guy.

i dont think you could call this a sign of a scam LOL

I have recieved several of those kind of emails, I just look at them and sometimes I answer and sometimes I don't. But what gets me is the local women, and I know it happens to the women also, that don't want to get to know you, I know that I am not the best looking man in the world but I am a great person if you will get to know me. They say Oh I have meet someone or they are just here for the forums. Well if you have found your someone then you should remove your profile and for the other, this is a dating site, I guess that is why they call it Connecting Singles. It kinda makes you think that they are scammers also.

This is a pretty transparent case, that one can spot out easily...How about if you run into a real pro and stay married 10 or 20 years, before you get robbed... What cathegory scheme that would be? Or have a Monica Lewinsky type play, set by Hollywood standards,to set you up? Any good looking woman with brains can take a man for a ride, anywhere, anytime, for as long as she wants if she only wants that. Thanks God there are some decent women on this planet also, but they are mostly taken.

And the moral of the story for middle-aged men and women, is that young, gorgeous looking things rarely need or want in the romantic sense, a much older partner.

Stick with your own age group and don´t be flattered or conned by these young people.

Oh it's everyone these people try to get to unfortunately. I've thankfully heard the story so often that when I get one of those "too good to be true" e-mails I look up the screen name and 6/10ths of the time they'll be listed on blacklists. 2/10ths they'll ask me for money or to join some webcam site within a few e-mails. 1/10ths they're legit women but are only interested in sex. The final 1/10ths are actually decent people who really are interested. That's just how it goes I s'pose dunno

Hi jan, I like your new pic! You are correct. I guess as we age we all remember how wonderful it was to feel that puppy love and not so secretly wish to relive those heady days.

I wasn't slamming Russia. I have a very good Russian friend who I would do anything for and he would do the same for me I'm sure. I came much closer to getting scammed by a woman from Romania but that story is for another time.
