ooby_dooby: Hi jan, I like your new pic! You are correct. I guess as we age we all remember how wonderful it was to feel that puppy love and not so secretly wish to relive those heady days.

I wasn't slamming Russia. I have a very good Russian friend who I would do anything for and he would do the same for me I'm sure. I came much closer to getting scammed by a woman from Romania but that story is for another time.

Thanks.

We can still feel that rush with a partner of our own age though can´t we? I certainly have in the recent past and I´m sure I will again.

Actually, many "techies" (those who are very good with internet technology and computers) do not capitalize the I.

However U instaed of "you" is a bad sign.

I would never ever send a penny to anyone as a result if internet communication..
In response to: A while back I was emailing a lady I met on here who said she was from New York. She liked my profile and sent me a flower. She was kinda young, very pretty and said she really liked older guys because they are more romantic. Ok so I figured WTH why not see where it will go. In her first replay to my email she said she really wasn't from NY but from Russia. No SH1T I knew she wasn't from NY by her horrible English. She wanted to come to the USA and get married ASAP. Learning this I told her straight out I would pick her up from the airport, provide her a place to stay, help her get a job, provide her with food, transportation and English lessons but I would not be sending her any money.
Two emails later she had already traveled to Moscow to catch a flight to Washington DC and sent me a copy of her complete flight itinerary. At this point I'm thinking maybe this is for real. oops, not so fast. Her next email she said that she didn't realised she needed a round trip ticket to get a visa and she didn't have the money for the return tkt. She needed $900.00 to pay for it. She said she spent every last ruble she had including all she could borrow from her family to get this far. At this point I felt it was time to remind her that I told her what I would and wouldn't do for her. I never heard from her again. Was I being cruel? Should I have sent her 900 bucks?

The other day I happen to be looking at a site I visit now and then http://www.womenrussia.com/blacklist_summary_a.htm#Archive1
And there she was using the name Alena Ovtchinnikowa. She told me her name was Iraida Anphalova. I decided to check that site under every letter in the alphabet and found her pics listed with no less than 22 different names from 10 different locations. Other guys had posted letters they got from her which were verbatim copies of the ones she sent me. One jerk actually sent her $1150.00 and a second payment of $2,000.00 The last he heard from her was a story she told him of how she was robbed on the street in Moscow and all his money was gone.
gettin so theres a scam on every block, every street corner. And sometines girls callin themself guys no wonder all the messes.gift

You want one? laugh

Yes, there are many sites on the net that lists known scammer handles and letters they use for initial communication.

The common name for this has become 417 + something, the funny thing is that it is also an error code in web programming "expectation failed" .

ChrisMarie: So the stories vary a bit, but my experience with scammer are much the same. One guy lived in California but just flew to Nigeria to get his son cured there from a heart disease.
We chatted on and off for a few weeks before he asked me to cash in some cheques for him.
One guy was from Nigeria but acutally lived in Cambodschia and were ready to relocate.
And one guy wrote a flattering email telling me he lives in Wisconsin but is on his way to Africa on some contract or other.
We chatted once or twice and then I didn´t see him online for a few days. Next time I said hello, he actually asked me who I was and if we had chatted before.
And sure all the guys were good looking and much more younger than I am.
I´m really asking myself: Do I lokk that desperate that they think I´ll fall for every bull....they are telling me?
Or perhaps it´s because I´m blonde.
I just don´t know.
Problem is - and not only for me I think - that I´m very careful now and maybe "real" people who want to chat or might be annoyed.
But there seem to be a lot of scammers around and so I prefer to be
"better safe than sorry".

Oh..You were not being cruel. And I think there´s a better way to spend 900 bucks :-)
It is not because you are blonde it is because you are on a dating site. One guy kept telling me I was beautiful, and I am... But he was going way overboard with the compliments. Then he wanted to know if I would take my profile off the site, and never tell anybody about me meeting him. Then he said, I am going to send you a key, and he gave me an adress to a house, and I was supposed to take this key and go get something out of a trunk to get him and his son out of Africa.
Now the neighborhood he wanted me to go to... let's just say I would not have blended in very well lol. Oh he kept saying you would allow us to suffer, and sending me songs, and sh-t. I said finally. I am not the girl for you.
Then he came out of his bag, and told me everything he thought was wrong with me. And how any woman would have been grateful to have a romantic man like him. Oh it was so pitiful. So I told him "google me," if I just wanted a romantic man, I will simply create one.

I learned along time ago that these ladies always ask you to leave the dating site and use thier private mail, I always tell them if they want to get to know me they have to stay with the dating site, they wont they will request I use thier address again , I remind them of my ground rules, I disagree with ever talking to them on thier private email so I may see where there private IP address is from, I have been told that they gather your addy to sell to other scammers, I had a scammer IM ME TODAY , she said she was from Florida then said she was in Malyasia, she was 28, I gave her nothing and won't go to her email either, if it sounds to good to be true its because it is.
cool In reference to 419 scammers these are the deadliest bunch thats out there. They have been know to use violence to get you to help them in their illegal business. That business is scamming. They actually work shifts in Nigeria to see who can scam the most. There are two kinds you can put them in romance scammer who sweet talks his way into someones heart and then ask her if she would hold money orders, deposit a check,or recieve a package for them.Their latest scam is sending out fake checks wanting the other party to go cash it and be left holding the bag. These nigerians have no train of thought but to take all they can.To lie as much as it takes to get by,and no matter if heart gets shredded in the first place. They honestly thing its due them and their country. You really have to be on your guardand pay attention to profiles, to the wording.I have threads on here about the scammers. What you need to know its a money making industry for them.Just like going to the bank, cha ching.hug

ooby_dooby: shimmi, just curious, what name did she give you? Here is just a partial list of some she uses.
Tatiana Anwarowa
Olga Burimowa
Olga Zaika
Anistasiya Melnik

rolling on the floor laughing that is funny. Zaika in Russian means stutterer doh And Melnik can be like a miller. All of these last names are very fake. uh oh

Well, it was definitely a scam. An important thing to remember with Russia, is Russians can not visit the US without a visa. And they must explain who they are seeing, for how long, and then proof of know the person in USA they want to visit, then they must proof that they are coming back to Russia, and must show the US embassy that they have good reasons for returning. They will need to fill out an application, go to Pony Express and pay for the application, and then they will be given a day for an interview. After the interview, it takes some time to process the visa. The process itself takes at least a few weeks. So, people should be warned, if a "russian girl" claims to want to come to US, and that she is on her way to the airport, and so on. You can assume it is a scam, Because for she must go to the US embassy and do all this work. And nobody knows how long the visa will take to process, so usually nobody buys a ticket before they at least they have the interview date.

COSMICDUST: This is a pretty transparent case, that one can spot out easily...How about if you run into a real pro and stay married 10 or 20 years, before you get robbed... What cathegory scheme that would be? Or have a Monica Lewinsky type play, set by Hollywood standards,to set you up? Any good looking woman with brains can take a man for a ride, anywhere, anytime, for as long as she wants if she only wants that. Thanks God there are some decent women on this planet also, but they are mostly taken.

I am most descent and normal and the girl next door type....country girl in my younger years in Maine.....and I am not taken yet.......not for 3yrs. Still waiting to be discovered here! I sometimes say all the good men are taken, but that is prob not true......just harder to find these days without social places to meet them.

But did you though about that - maybe they are not even women? :D I heard stories, where wery beautiful attractive woman writes long romantic letters, but behind it is actually a man. Story like you wrote is so familiar for one what is inrussianwomen site. And interesting, that they ask same amount of money.
So I think that if you really want to meet girl from another country you should go and meet her first.
I even believe that its like 24h work for them. It is like a sekt.
I get messages from nigerians too. I just laugh at them:) Its like a good soap from newspapers.
So first of all - ARE YOU SURE THAT SHE IS NOT HE!!! :)

Good luck with finding a TRUE love

To answer your question, no I can't swear she was really a female and not a man posing as a woman. All of her emails were copy & paste and she moved extremely fast from her first our first contact to sending me her flight info. It only took her a week. Which was a big red flag. To be honest I felt she was a scammer from day 1 and more less just played along to see how far it would go. In her last email (the one from the night before she was to board the plane) she told me she got me a present "From russia with love" I nearly died laughing. I guess she thought she was being so clever.
