it (the bible) doesnt inspire free will (i just saw that)
we all already have free will, minds, creativity, hearts, beliefs

the belief of one loving or admiring or following the bible-for example-is no different than someone not believing the bible

two sides of the same coin

the bible-for example-aint magical-it doesnt hypnotize people anymore than the 'facts' that bring one to 'believe' their is no god

The Entire bible is taught as the ispired word of god. That's one of the standards taught in christianity.

You're right. Free will is already there. No book can inspire it, and no one can give it to you. The Psalms being the beliefs and worship of the author are just words.

So is the rest of the Bible.

The choice... is yours.

Ditto. God is omniscient, omnipresent and eternal. The maker knows His own creation and has given us free will. Fantastic (responsibility, by the way).

Yes, God's matters are paradoxical (to our logics), I've heard that before. So?

"You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your book!" [Psalm 139:16]

I dont really know on that one except god is basically informing you in a smarmy way that you have no free will nor self direction and you are damned if you do and damned if you dont.

139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. laugh

Ive made my bed in hell. doh

this means that God knew you before you were even born and it is recorded in His book

If I remember correctly...........
The book of psalms is a book of prayers and songs. This passage is a confirmation that the writer has put his whole faith in God. He will therfore trust that God has a plan for his life, and accepts that plan!

Does this mean that all of our actions good and bad are pre-destined, like roles we have been given to play on the stage of life? If that's the case, will we all be absolved from fulfilling our destiny and welcomed by God?

God saw him in the womb as he was created because life is in the blood that is from God, his days were numbered and for a certain purpose as God decide for him, God knows and records each of our days in the book of life...if we are found in the book of life. We are accountable.

No! we have free will.

A contractor knows the end from the beginning......a house of a certain type will be built and does get built. The workers are scheduled and overseen.....but can do as they please and some get fired. Their actions will be recorded each day and paid accordingly. If their actions causes delays and rebuilds....it is done so the house is still done as planned. Sometimes with new workers who are recruited by the contractor. The contractor makes adjustments as needed to finish the house according to the plan.

Simple!

ostensibly, of course, this has to be a basic tenet - but the truth of the matter is a whole lot less subjective........... wave

Remember, there are just three religious truths:
1. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
2. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian church.
3. Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store or at Hooters yay

That's simply what the passage means to me. Whether I believe it or not is another story. I believe time and space are illusions, and if time is illusion, what I do in the future is ingrained in the past as a matter of mutual possession. The only way to change Karma is to become fully aware of all paths taken and untaken. That not only changes us as we make choices, but it also changes the universe in which we manifest.

As above, so below. wine

This scripture means that God knew us & how we would choose to live our lives, before we were even born. (It does not mean He controls our lives (unless we allow Him to by giving our life completely to HIS will ). It simply means He already KNOWS what paths we WILL choose.

princemuncher: Hi MF!

Hi Claayer!

Thanks for your thoughts.

Just another thread about something I've been pondering.

I'm in agreement with claayer. But that's the athiest in me.

MF. You have a good point, but from my understanding, the Bible is supposed to be the word (or inspired word) of God. God (if there's really free will) cannot inspire belief.

Hope things are well with you guys.

If you are an athiest, why do you bother to keep questioning a non-existant Being & what He said? I don''t understand that about athiests. They spend so much time arguing & debating about what they consider a non-existant Being. Why not discuss the Easter Bunny or Santa, as it would be all the same? Yet, they seem to be OBSESSED with talking continualy about God. If I didn't believe in someone's existance I'd find much better things to do with my time than discuss a non-existant Being. That's TOTALLY irrational to me!

No one trys to convince the rest of the world that the Easter Bunny or Santa is real... no one judges others based on a belief of EB or Santa... when something effects your life because of the beliefs of others, it´s very healthy to question and discuss.

For myself regarding the passage... if you know how the book is going to turn out... why bother reading it? If there is a God and he already knows everything we will do and knows the choices we will make... whats the point of having us live our lives?

I agree with this. If I were to have children, they would be home-schooled these days, and while I choose to allow them to make the choice between fact and fantasy in their literature, when it comes to science time, it's Dragnet all the way, Sgt. Friday.
