you are right Conrad but for instance see what is happening in some countries as in Zimbabway, Afganistan and ... . planting opium, the most important industry in that country! how do they help the society changing for better!?

Oh, no...I meant that. I settled in for the political and history lessons that this will hopefully draw from some of the masters of the subject...Conrad is one that I hope will teach, not join me in the popcorn. I was supposed to be learning from him! Trust me, this is my weakest area of knowledge because I don't watch the news or read the papers since I don't trust the media spin on things, and hate always being so depressed. So, I learn here now from those who actually live and travel around the globe and know more...or study it due to their strong interest.

So, if you don't mind...I'll be pulling up a seat to read and learn, but not joining in.

I remember Goerge Wallker Bush addressed American people as the nation of character in his inauguration day in his first term, he supported his idea with " when an American while driving sees an old wo(man) crossing the street, he should stop and help him to the other side. And ... . what's your idea?

I think most countries see themselves as trying to better the world. It's all in how we interpret that goal.

Peraonally, I think Scandinavian countries seek to better the world through peaceful means more than any other.

You could start by perusing some of that Lady's Ideas.

I don't remember the OP saying anything about a perfect country. No such thing exists any more than a perfect human. However, I was hoping to find that some had the peace issue down better.

I do agree with Pretzie (goodness, you really expect me to get used to that?) that Switzerland and some of the other Scandanavian countries have a pretty good handle on it.

I was hoping for some interesting and enlightening posts. I'll keep checking it, though. All hope is not lost.

Check out a books titled "1426" and "1436"

The author takes the position that in 1426, a giant fleet from China (some 2000 ships total departed) made it way to first to Africa...then by canal and the Nile River , the MED to Europe. Landing in northern Italy near Venice. Some 600 hundred arriving ships landed here, as the other 1400 were diverted to other destinations enroute.

He shows that most the European inventions followed this. That Europeans now had maps of the new world that Columbus used. That
European knowledge of the stars and their orbits (for sea navigation) changed.

All this came according the books writer from the Chinese version of a massive encloypedia that they carried.

Did it happen? I don't know. But if it did...it is the biggest technology tranfer in the history of man. If it happened, you have to give the Chinese the number one spot for inventions, and improvements to man kind world wide.
