I'm with ya MB the only problem is that i have a very good reason to stop smoking. My grandfather was just diagnosed with lung cancer. So i think for my new years resolution I'll stop smoking as well. Remember! Never say your "trying" to quit just say that you are quitting. Works a little better =) peace

In case I miss you. I have never been a smoker, but have helped many smokers to quit.

It's important to start to think of yourself as a non-smoker.

Much you can do to set the scene, as it were.

Set up your immediate environment as that of a non smoker, that is, get rid of ashes, throw out any packets of ciagrette you still have, or if rollies, throw tobacco and papers out.

Air your home if you smoked inside, if not, wash clothes, dry cleaning etc, so all is fresh smelling, not of stale cig. smoke.

Break the cycle of behaviours, eg. if first thing in the morning you light up a cig, well, do something else with that energy.

In fact redirect your energy that you would usually use to smoke a cigy, redirect it to doing something more positive and constructive.

Maybe make a list of such above alternative activities, eg, more exercises, gardening, more work, walking, drinking glass of water, or other.

Visualise yourself as a non smoker while doing some slow, deep breathing exercises where you won't be disturbed.

Just know that it takes 3 days for nicotine to leave your system. The rest is entirely habit. That's why, you break up the old behaviour associations, and break the 'chain of events'.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use patches. That still supplies your body with nicotine!

All the best.If you are motivated, you will achieve becoming a non-smoker. Remember, tell yourself it is for ALL time and under AL conditions.

I just went cold turkey in July , I haven't smoked since. What helped me to stay done was chewing tons of gum , avoiding long car rides , and keeping the drinking down

i have already started on giving up smoking, now i dont go out with my smokes, they stay at home, and i am now feeling really good just going with my phone, keys, and wallet, instead of rollies, rollies papers, filters, what a handful...

the house has been vacum, the butts are all gone... the floors have been cleaned... and i agree with ya, i tried it without patches, and lasted 3 weeks, but found a butt, and said, Ill be right, how wrong i was....

I now excise in the morning, running 2.5klm do breathing excises for my lungs, getting my body tuned into the withdraws of getting the crap out of my system...

I know its not going to easy!!! but i am also prepared for the withdraws, im the one that was silly enough to start..

most of it, is the mind, if you train ya mind that your a non smoker, thats the battle over with... i have a very strong mind as well...but Im going to do it....09 is free of smoke....head banger

The most important thing is to not take even one drag from a cig. It takes three days for the nicotine to get out of your system. any time you take a hit it is going to take another three days to clear that out. after the three days, with lots of water, the addiction is more of a mental thing that you can beat. Good luck.professor

its enlightening to get feedback... from you lot... it will play on my mind now, and give the strenght to stop it....is there anyone other then the ones that want to stop, and we have to honest here as well, if we fail, admit it.. which i would do, if i failed, but at least I am saying Im not prefect, but am bloody well going to give up, or die trying... hope not, you know what i mean....handshake
