BarrenPneuma: I cannot say from one email whether or not I like or dislike someone so to that I will always answer.
There is no harm done in responding and much more harm to share in outright rejecting someone without reason.
For myself I am not looking for anything beyond communication here so it is perhaps easier to discern this but I cannot see how sharing a smile is such a bad thing. Lingering to expect more or a return really is not very proper, but once again a smile costs nothing and is its own reward.
If there is persistence in communication then I will quickly draw a line that has to be recognized and respected.
The only emails I do not respond to are those from the teeming hordes of scammers that abound. They are fairly easy to discern though as they never show up on the Who's Viewed me list and often go on about things that are distinctly not represented in my profile.
To each their own of course, as this is merely my personal opinion and way of dealing with this issue.

If you get mail from "Creatures", you know, they wouldn't look out of place in a freaks circus, or somewhere where there's a waiting room for facial reconstructive surgery just be polite, and tell them the truth, i.e....."You think they look like an extra out of the remake of "Dawn Of The Dead".

Nobody will mind if you tell them politely your not interested, but i am sure it annoys people intensely if they send a polite nice email to say hi and they just get a grunt, or the equivalent back.

Remember, as i have had happen to me, if you have someone not even displaying a picture you might well be surprised (pleasantly) to find at a later point you find them very attractive!

Anyone who emails me gets a reply thanking them for usually their comments for say example "They appreciated my forum posts, or they like the humour".

How rude inconsiderate and ignorant would i be if i didn't take the time to reply?

I'd say incredibly so, though sometimes i do forget to reply if i am busy and i speak to a person via email a lot.

Anyone with pictures of fluffy animals will always get preferential treatment, either that or interact in any way.

I will sometimes answer back, it's really according to what they said in the email.

Sometimes if you answer all of the emails you get on some days, you won't have enough time to play with your friends on the forums. laugh

If it's a scammer, I just delete it. Otherwise, I haven't had an email yet from someone I don't like, so can't answer to any other scenario.

When someone sends me mail, I look at a few things...

The letter to see how literate the person is or perhaps which country they hail from. The content of the letter tells me if in fact this person took the time to read my profile. You could say I score them for paying attention. If someone sends me marriage proposals and requests I talk to them on IM (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE), I ignore the little gnat. I mean, how hard is it to read on my profile that I have NOT got marriage as my listed objective(in fact it says friends) and that my IM is private(feel free to go peek, lol). If they make any kind of comment that is in fact not related to my profile, I refuse any further contact. Ie., "love your blue eyes"... oh puleeez, they're hazel Einstein.

I look at the person's profile. If they say they are from two totally different places... ie.,
"I am from Nigeria" but profile says New York...*errrrt... no deal.
If they try to convince me of something, yet the profile details oppose their comments... denied.

I do check to see if this person even viewed my profile.

I also read to see if they've posted anything in the forums... and yes, I will read back as far as a year. It's amazing what you can catch if you pay attention. wink

If I suspect something fishy, I google.
Always do your homework. You may not be just helping yourself... but others as well.
thumbs up

I ignore. If he persists then I tell him off, block him, and put a voo doo curse on him. That always seems to do the trick...roll eyes

I answer some and I don't answer all. I never respond to the 30 year ladies from every foreign country in the world that is contacting me. Some days I feel I should respond, but I don't.

If she makes it clear that she wants to have something with me but I don't I would definitely tell her because it's just not nice to leave someone in the dark, but I wouldn't be mean or anything and I'd try to be friends with her and all.
And also I would like it to be done to me too.
Everyone likes to know where they stand.

Not answer back...I have gotten into a few situations where even thought I wasn't interested...I did become what I thought was friends with the person only to have them push for more...or get angry about it even though I said I wanted to be just friends...so now I just don't bother....I don't feel I owe anyone I don't know any explanation...if I am interested or I already know you...I will respond...or even if I have seen you on the forums and you seem like a nice person...or funny....I will respond...but there are far too many fakes and trolls on here for me to be bothered anymore frankly wasting my time....wave wink hug kiss hug

Happy New Year to everyone! Tks, spiceygamble. I learned a lot from you today. Am new to this internet-thingy to meet people, so tips like this are more than welcome.
And, ariesgirl, I agree with most that caution is always a wise thing to do, but just as important is being well mannered and nice. Say "thanks, but no thanks" in a nice way. I do that and up to now, i haven't had any bad mails coming back. If it's a scam, they'll get that and you won't get any mails back.
