When you open that first email/message from a new person who hasn't ever contacted you before "how should it start?" What should it include? What do you put in it to him/her? Can it be too short? Too long? Which ones to you respond to and which ones do you delete?

I usually open with "hi" or "thank you, but.....". For the most part I "try" to be subtle. Sometimes they get the hint, sometimes not. Then I block.

Now if it's someone I'm interested in actually conversing with, I usually begin as if we're already talking. laugh

If I am the recipient I reply to those that usually have said something in reference to my profile. That proves to me they have read it.
If I am sending an email I will also select a common interest, or two, that I read in his profile and comment on it. Pictures are secondary to me.
Ordinary, mundane, and boring profiles are deleted by me with no reply.
If he is grammatically challenged I will delete with no response.
Also ignored are profiles that state they are honest, loyal, trustworthy, etc. as that should be a given. How many profiles do you read that state they lie, cheat, and steal?

I respond in short comments in emails as I believe if there is a connection or chemistry most can be discussed over the phone.

Now for a good time call Vixen at 813 867-5309....

It can definitely be too short. "Hi how r u?"......is not something I'd ever respond positively to, (if I responded at all).

Any endearments from someone I don't know is a surefire way of being blocked.

IMs from someone I haven't talked to in e mails previously, is a no-no too.

I usually respond to e mails that have at least 3 or more sentences in them, preferably worded without the use of text shortcuts instead of actual words, and there is no excuse for bad spelling.

Any negative dialogue or sarcasm is out too, as is sex talk.

I don't think it's that difficult for people to at least try to make the effort to treat each other with a little respect and some manners in mails.

So you see nothing wrong with really short emails like: Hi how are you?

I wouldn't worry about it. This world is made up with many different types of people. Some like good girls and some like bad, really bad girls.

You state you normally don't respond to really short emails. What if it is from a good looking man who you are attracted too?

I don't particularly care for the "Hi, how are you?" short ones. But I guess it's really no different than sending a flower with the pre-written message. confused

sexyattorney, just because someone mentions that they are honest and loyal doesn't mean they are lying.......doh

I agree with you on this. I have several things in my profile that would lead someone to believe I am a honest and loyal person. Not all people mislead others.

Hopefloats, I never stated they were lying. Please don't put words in my mouth. Just not necessary, to me, to state that in a profile that they are honest since that should be a given as I previously stated.
