Drewski: cont.......
The right for Israel to exist was a key point in negotiations as Nasser had always threatened to 'push them into the sea' so how can one negotiate with people who are intent on your destruction. And this point has carried through to this day in one form or another. Israel, with US help (particularily in the Yom Kippour War (AKA October War) has taken ground in all conflicts. The Golan, Sinai, West Bank all became part of the occupied territories and used to bolster defense. When Arabs cry they wish the land returned, Israel wants something in return - security. Sadat gave his word that Israel had a right to exist as security and the Sinai was returned ( I was there at El Tasa in the Sinai when the military leaders or Egypt and Israel met to coordinate)
The Arab League who would not endorse the division of Palestine have treated Palestinian refugees like scum, all except Israel and Jordan. In turn, the Palestinians have been forced to carve out a niche on the edge of Egypt and Israel as every time they attack Israel, the property from which the attacks come from is taken off the table so that it cannot be used for that purpose again. And, later, it is then used in a common sense way to be used for Israel rather than let it go to waste.
So with Arab countries unable to defeat Israel, and, unwilling to cave into a common theme of recognition, unwilling to help Palestinians by giving them land and a home they simply kept the pot stirring with money for weapons, some pushing and rah rah 'dirty Zionists' propaganda and here they are. Living against a brick wall and a bunch of useless so called 'friends.'
Israel has taken hits for so long that it requires 100% security for any deal. That 100% requires time for trust to be built and, to a bunch of people living in squalor, that just isn't fast enough so, young hotheads with nothing to do but run around and make heroes out of themselves volunteer in droves to kill the Jews and Zionists. The women get into it too as it is a virtual culture of hate and so, you can't blame them as all of us would feel that way if we were them. Hence, within the population the cycle is self propagating. They know the world press is on their side (as we all are) and so, portray themselves as poor innocent victims even though outside of rare rogue attacks they are first to instigate aggression and the pres laps up the Israelis reaction as 'wrong' 'overreacting' etc. I wonder how my country would react if a bombing per week was carried out against school children and women from an adjacent country. Would they do nothing? God I hope not, I hope they kill whomever did it so that it doesn't happen again and if they don't, why the hell am I paying taxes?
What you can blame though is the leaders of Palestine who know there is a way out. Who know that with recognition and control they can have all the land of the 1948 agreement along with all the money needed to set it up for a modern industrial society to thieve in. It will take time and that is what nobody is wiling to give.
Hoped this helped.
You could have saved the bits of this website and send him to the official website of the Israeli MFA They have a historical section and better accounts of "what really happened in Palestina".
I especailly liked your relativization of the conditions of all inhabitants of Palestina before the Zionist blow in 1948.
And also your definition of terrorim and the Zionist "insurgence"... do you know they killed a high UN officer (amongst others) that did not belong to the any army???
Oh god!
