Need advise fast -- the people that have my husky have left her in the basement of their home for at least a week. I just found out. They are apparently out of town. The back door is unlocked.

What should we do?

I actually thought it might be better for Em to sneak in and get her.

And she will be coming home with me.

gypsykisses: call the police

so that the police can enter the building and retrieve the pup---I'm quite sure they won't be too happy about a dog being left alone for such a long period of time

We've tried them. They won't do anything.

Kind of my thoughts exactly. The car is thawing now. It's really icy here tonight.

Animal protection is closed and the emergency number is the police.

Myself, Dana, I would first call authorities, and explain the situation, before attempting to enter someone else home without their permission. Perhaps a neighbor of theirs is supposed to be watching the dog when they are out of town. Maybe check that out first.

I can't leave her there one more night. Animal welfare won't be open until Monday.

The neighbor is the one that called me. They know the situation. I've been upset because they keep her in the basement all the time. She has an autoimmune disease and can barely get up and down the stairs.
