I would say for me hope is that life doesn't end with dirt.

It is the culmination of desire and possibility.

gozoman2: Life is hope.

It is the driving force that makes us want to go further, beyond the now, the today.....

It is the reason for us to be.

Hope is light. Without it, there would be only darkness.

So well stated, Gozo. I will go one step further and add that life and love are hope. Those are the driving forces...

For without love, life is bleak indeed for us humans. wine

Hunger is the need of the body screaming to be fulfilled.

Curiosity is the need of the mind likewise demanding to be fed.

Hope is the yearning of the spirit for nourishment.

A positive anticipation of the inherent promises that make life enjoyable. Hope far exceeds the promise of a tantalizing steak or a good book though as it scratches an itch that is more than physical. Hope is expectation of good to be fulfilled in one's life. Hope is beyond expectation and optimism as it is borne in emotion rather than logic or deliberation.
Hope is one part of the spirtitual trinity of Hope, Faith and Love and as such one third of the reason we exist. It is one half of the foundation of Love along with its brother (sister?) virtue Faith.
Without Hope we fail to live as life was intended, and our spirit the greatest harm.

Same here, HJ..."ashes to ashes"...that's what I want at the end. Beats making a hole in the ground to take up space. Instead, I can nourish the Mother, and add to Her bounty.

Beautifully put into words Dawn and Mark. I could feel the depths of these touch my soul. Thank you, both.

Dawn7z: Hope is one of those concepts almost like love to me or joy or those wonderful characteristics or at times part of some people's actual being that is so important and precious it is hard to define. It is there deep within but words don't seem adequate to embody it and bring out all the various aspects. Like love it transcends just one aspect of our lives but can carry over into anything.
If we are ill as I have been struggling with my asthma lately it's hope that the spring thaw and warmer weather will be here and I will feel energetic again.

At the same time for the larger picture in my life hope is that one day some poem or blog or something I write will reach out to many people and show them the need to really start connecting with each other. Bit egotistical there but that is my heart.Hope illuminates the path ahead when there is darkness around and even naysayers who would stop us. Hope keeps people fighting when they have serious illnesses. Hope is strength and passion and not passive but a living vibrant thing. It is almost an entity in itself at least in my opinion.

There is hope that the war will end and that many of our boys will be home soon and that someday we will figure out a way to be at peace with each other. Hope is something that many of the great leaders down through time inspired in others. Such as Martin Luther King.

Dawn7z: What does the word hope mean to you? You can quote the dictionary if you must or thesaurus, but I am really looking for what it is for you personally. It has become a very important word to me over the years and I am colored by my past Christian world views but would like your take on it.

dunno

I don't place any emphasis on the word anymore.
