"None of the security council lifetime members are going to give up the veto. ……………. They will not give up the veto power"

People have the power to make anything happen if they gather their word and demand change. doh Yes, none of the UN council members will agree to give up their "made" right to veto but enough countries around the world object to the current UN council and we can change this privilege/control that a few countries have over the world. The UN council has been biased toward achieving benefits to certain countries for decades, are not you folks fed up with it?? (I know many are). very mad very mad very mad

Look at what is going on today in Gaza, people from around the world including Jews and some of their religious leaders are protesting the massacres and what the UN council is doing? Watching!!! Did you guys saw that few Israelis in the UK and Egypt burn their Israeli passports protesting to the war in Gaza? That was extreme but comes from anger too doh

"a General Assembly overrule vote of a single lifetime member veto."

This is what I want from this discussion is to get people input and thoughts on how is it possible for things to change doh Thank you.

"There is going to come a day....when the world has another Hitler on its hands, I think. ……………."

Many may argue that already we have some in the world and in the UN council. rolling on the floor laughing

"Historically and morally, leaders of countries have obligations to defend their citizens, their country from attacks and violence. Jesus even talked of this...when he asked...why does the government have the sword? He answered himself...that it was in defense of the people.

The United Nations, in my opinion, should not take away the right of a leader to defend and protect his country. It is his sworn duty to do".

Then where is the right of the Palestinian people to defend themselves? confused It seems that the UN took every right for them to fight!!! The protest everywhere is not only about the killing going on in Gaza. It is also to remind the rest of us that Israel is an occupation to the Palestinian land and the Palestinians have the right to fight it. Who to blame for the war in Gaza, is of a little issue here to me. The excessive use of power is a bigger issue. The Massacres of Israel have been going on for decades and each time Israel thinks that it silenced the voices of Resistance to its occupation of Palestine and other lands, something comes up to tell Israel, the calculation was wrong. People do not give up their right to fight against occupation and massacres for nothing, we need to acknowledge what they have been through.. then we need to listen to them and compensate them.. then we need to reach a peace with them.

Some wrote to me that they think the fight between Israel and some country (being Palestine, Lebanon,….etc) will go forever. No, I believe it can end in our lifetime… but strategies have to be changed. The unconditional support of certain UN countries to Israel in whatever war and massacres it does should stop. As long as Israel, who brought violence to the Middle East since 1948, is free to conduct a massacre after another.. Palestinians and Arabs will be angry and it is their right to feel that way… Add on the top of that countless around the world from Muslims and Non-Muslims who feel that the Palestinian not only underwent genocide by Israel, expelled from their own homes, but also denied the right to resist the occupation professor

As for the results of anger.. very mad please check my other posts grin

Excellent post. Speaking of 1948, there was Gandhi. Many of us who have supported Arafat and the old PLO, the PFLP etc. have always wondered what would Israel actually do if all the Muslim, Arab and other peoples around the world were to have an international non violent march into Israel and then also take a page from Martin Luther King and just sit down in whatever Israeli towns and cities they finally reached. Imagine potentially a million or more peoples marching peacefully into Israel to protest and stage the world's greatest sit-down protest...would the Zionists give orders to their military to open fire...to bomb and strafe them, with napalm or phosphorus bombs????????????????
The lessons of Gandhi and King have been vastly under used given what is at stake; peace and a return of Palestine; a chance for the modern UN to finally right the wrong of both the 'old UN' and to nullify the insidious Balfour Declaration; to finally break the US carte blanche to Israel to continually back everything Israel does to Palestinians...would they dare to sanction the Israeli military to open fire on perhaps millions of peaceful protesters to occupy Israel in a global protest culminating in a massive sit down strike in Jerusalem...
Some faction leaders liked it, some were dazed at both the enormity of the potentials....I still think it is a viable, 'do-able' ultimate protest by the entire world.

I think it is a great idea Solitare but everything is possible with Israel. They may open fire on peaceful protestors.

I was not surprised but upset and saddened when one of Israeli leaders (Lieberman) said earlier today that Israel should hit Gaza with a nuclear bomb to erase Gazans. What a peace lover this one..crying

That is why, I wrote over and over.. Israel should be disarmed before Peace can take place in the region and the international support to Israel should stop.

linarl: Yes, it is 100% true. Thank you Steevyv for your input. More people experiences (not only opinions) related to the topic discussed is welcomed and needed on this forum.
As we connect on this website and elsewhere, it is great to share our own experiences, that is what may make us change as people in our minds and hearts.
The thing is with what is going on in Gaza and debating over it here on CS for three weeks that I felt some already made their minds way before coming to participate in the threads… as if it was their duty to defend Israel in whatever it does. They argue and argue repeating the same motto of Israel defending itself, which the world does not believe hence the protests around the world for Gaza, rejecting what Israel has been doing of killing civilians. People who feel that what Palestinians have been going through for the past 60 years (like myself) is injustice and there is unnecessary excessive use of power of Israel in Gaza also presented their point of views BUT:
Regardless of the political and military results this war come to, history will mention it in its blackest book because of the massacres Israel has been committing against Palestinian children everyday for the past three weeks.
Humans are responsible in front of history to force change to take place. We have to make it happen!!
