There's an area on here that tells you about the current scams going on. But basically, they sweet talk you, act really interested, try to get information about you, and at some point needing money comes up. Usually they're using someone else's picture, and the profile & location don't exactly match up (like they may talk about boating through the canals of their city...but you look at the profile & you know darn well there are no canals through that city). Sometimes they even make up the name of where they're from. Also, if they happen to choose a real place, and if you ask specific questions about that place, they usually are unable to answer them...especially if it's a place that you know well (like you're hometown). Just something to be watchful of.

There are handfuls on common sense basic rules, which a scam baiter should follow:

The first rules is to have a good anti-virus software running on your system all the time and do keep the virus definitions ready. This is must for any computer which has internet connection but it is most significant for the scam baiting.
# Make sure you don't believe in anything, which a scammer tells you until you know it is true. In case scammer tells you "here is my photo" you could argue it isn't. If on Monday the scammer tells you its Monday, check the calendar. It's possibly Tuesday.
# Next you should make sure that you do not give any real personal information to the scammer. This needs to be very obvious. Any actual personal information carries your real name, real address, place of work, real bank account number, and personal e-mail address and so on.

# Remember you should never go to meet any scammer in person, regardless of their location given. As most scammers are just nothing more than pretty cheat artists, there had been many cases of muggings, kidnappings and also murder of people who had gone to meet with 419 scammers. Please do not do it.
# And the most important rule is, you should never involve directly any innocent third parties in you scam bait. No matter how much you may hate you boss or your ex-spouse, don't take revenge through this. You should not take on the identity of any real person existing or do not send a scammer to meet with any real person.

Thanks for the info and yes I understand all of that.. which is why I have turned off my Im option... but what I did not understand was why when I asked about an adult chat site, so we didn;t have to deal with all of the kiddies and their immature chat........ I was met with this scammer crap.......

I think maybe their system here can only handle one chat room. If they used something like volano, they might be able to handle more rooms. But even in a more mature room, you'd still have people causing problems. I used to chat at several different sites & it was the same way....people logging in and causing problems & double logging in even so it would look like two different people and gang up on someone.

Ah Ok.. see that is what I was after... an intelligent answer as to why there only seemed to be teens on the chat site when I went to check it out.. and the only response I kept getting was something called "scammers" lol.. which I did not understand.. In any case I hope that the people who run this site will listen and implement chat rooms for the over teen group.. (so as not to offend the ones in denial of their age)and make a chat site that we (mature) folk can enjoy.. ya know?

Scammers will email you and you find them in your mailbox.
They fell in love, often the first or second email, with your profile-picture.
They all have lost their wife.
They all have at least one child.
They all want you to go to Yahoo and give that address right awsy.
They have fake pictures.
Will ask you for more pictures.
They may tell you they are rich but
low and behold soon their company goes belly-up.
They may tell you they are an engineer.
In a following email may tell you they are going to school to
become an engineer.
They don't take notes so often gett names mixed-up.
Their English is often bad they may tell you they lived in Italy for many years.
