Thanks, Antjo, for your informed and cogent posts, and for presenting a perspective that is sorely missed in the US.

romanticman4u: I have no disrespect for muslims I have a heap load of disrespect for terrorists, I know there are many many peace loving muslims. The statement was I hope the terrorists virgins turn out to be goats, don't put words into my mouth that I didn't speak.

Which terrorists? Speak please!wave

Probably those who are pulling the rest of them in the mud. Those "fundamentalist" and fanatics (example: Mumbai!). And yes, there are good Muslims, but the problem is to find them. This is part of their "culture", coz the Islam is the only religion in this world, all others are just a "state in between". This they have been told from childhood on an everyday base - also called "brainwash".

See what happens in Afghanistan 6 years ago with the destroying of those ancient monuments. And same is happened right now in Pakistan! If they don't respect anything, how can others respect them?

yes, I guess there is some truth in this.
Since Israeli administration needs the status quo for their own purposes.
I believe that Israeli society would fall apart if they had not a common enemy.
Another point: I don't think Hamas members are such cowards as previously suggested.
Otherwise they would not take on an army like the Israeli one which heavily outnumbers and out guns them.
I don't have sympathies for Hamas but neither for the high-tech Israeli forces.
doh
In an absurd kind of way Hamas plays the game of the Israeli administration.
It's true Israel does not wish for a united people of Palestinians.
I have Jewish friends who are totally opposed to what is happening in the region.
The real cowards are those who deny progress.
RayfromUSA: That's exactly right.

And it's still in progress. The rank and file Hamas members are just dupes and serve as cannon fodder.

But the leadership has direct ties to Israel. Israel provides all the arms, including the worthless rockets that cannot be aimed with any precision.

Israeli agents provide the rockets, other Israeli agents (Hamas leadership) fire the rockets into Israeli occupied settlements (with almost no casualties or damage) and that serves as justification for the ongoing genocide.

Israel "retaliates" with massive attacks using all of their hi-tech and very deadly armaments. They target schools, refugee centers, hospitals, police stations, fire stations, ambulances, etc etc etc.

Their objective being to destroy the Palestinian infrastructure, render any hope of a Palestinian state impossible and making life so difficult that the remaining Palestinians can't raise families.

It can only be called genocide.

yes, Antjo, thanks for trying to shed some light onto the roots of the problem.
People should consider ALL of the facts.

pretzelman: you shoe your true colors!! Your distain for Muslims shines through. Since ALL Muslims, not only extremist, believe in the 42 virgins, your comment shows your disrespect for the Muslim religion.

BUT...that is your right. Go for it

thank you sir ,, handshake

romanticman4u please not that its not a matter of religion, its a matter of politics , and its very clear here , please respect Islam just like we respect Judiasm and Chritianity in our countries , we dont have any problem with Christians or jews , our fight is against the zionism sir, and by the way if you have a look at the daily NEWS , you can see that its not only Muslems who are against wats happening in Gaza , but Christians all over the world and Jews as well , i have seen more that one of JEWS group of protesters in Sydney and other cities in thw world , some of them are even HAKHAMS, and they are against whats happening in Gaza, and we stand fro them , i still remember the Hakham who brunt his siraeli passport , as a kind of expressing his anger and not belonging to Israel ( zionism ) not Jews at all ,its a matter of Politics not religion at all .

Always good to read the post of a level headed Antjo39, and his ability to submit reality in the presence of overwhelming speculation. More commonly known has propaganda, repeated from both sides on this issue, of either sides individual desire. Thanks Antjo, maybe UN secretary general is in your future. laugh Do you think the world could accept reality?

RobertI believe that Israeli society would fall apart if they had not a common enemy.

Yes indeed. Having most of the western world against them (including three quarters of this forum) shows they have few friends but, as for enemies I think that Syria, Hezbollah, Iran and every Arab country save Jordan and Egypt refusing to even acknowledge their right to exist is evidence that there might still be one or two enemies out there they can rally around.

Robert

Took on the Israeli army? Golly, this is what we all want them to do instead of hiding in towns and buildings occupied by innocent women and children. Then again, they don't attack Israeli military targets preferring to bomb pizza parlors and buses full of students and women. On the home front, rigging up civilian buildings and neighborhoods as fighting positions in the hopes they are not attacked rather than confronting the Israeli army shows they are true heroes. I mean, only cowards take actions to safeguard their women and children.

What do we know about the propaganda warfare - how important it is specially with nowadays politics and media ?

And let me share this article from an Israeli writer and peace activist Uri Avnery with Gush Shalom." In the end, this war is a crime against ourselves too, a crime against the State of Israel."

"IN THIS WAR, as in any modern war, propaganda plays a major role. The disparity between the forces, between the Israeli army - with its airplanes, gunships, drones, warships, artillery and tanks - and the few thousand lightly armed Hamas fighters, is one to a thousand, perhaps one to a million. In the political arena the gap between them is even wider. But in the propaganda war, the gap is almost infinite.

Almost all the Western media initially repeated the official Israeli propaganda line. They almost entirely ignored the Palestinian side of the story, not to mention the daily demonstrations of the Israeli peace camp. The rationale of the Israeli government (“The state must defend its citizens against the Qassam rockets”) has been accepted as the whole truth. The view from the other side, that the Qassams are a retaliation for the siege that starves the one and a half million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, was not mentioned at all.

Only when the horrible scenes from Gaza started to appear on Western TV screens, did world public opinion gradually begin to change.

True, Western and Israeli TV channels showed only a tiny fraction of the dreadful events that appear 24 hours every day on Aljazeera’s Arabic channel, but one picture of a dead baby in the arms of its terrified father is more powerful than a thousand elegantly constructed sentences from the Israeli army spokesman. And that is what is decisive, in the end.

War – every war – is the realm of lies. Whether called propaganda or psychological warfare, everybody accepts that it is right to lie for one’s country. Anyone who speaks the truth runs the risk of being branded a traitor.

The trouble is that propaganda is most convincing for the propagandist himself. And after you convince yourself that a lie is the truth and falsification reality, you can no longer make rational decisions.

An example of this process surrounds the most shocking atrocity of this war so far: the shelling of the UN Fakhura school in Jabaliya refugee camp.

Immediately after the incident became known throughout the world, the army “revealed” that Hamas fighters had been firing mortars from near the school entrance. As proof they released an aerial photo which indeed showed the school and the mortar. But within a short time the official army liar had to admit that the photo was more than a year old. In brief: a falsification.

Later the official liar claimed that “our soldiers were shot at from inside the school”. Barely a day passed before the army had to admit to UN personnel that that was a lie, too. Nobody had shot from inside the school, no Hamas fighters were inside the school, which was full of terrified refugees.

But the admission made hardly any difference anymore. By that time, the Israeli public was completely convinced that “they shot from inside the school”, and TV announcers stated this as a simple fact.

So it went with the other atrocities. Every baby metamorphosed, in the act of dying, into a Hamas terrorist. Every bombed mosque instantly became a Hamas base, every apartment building an arms cache, every school a terror command post, every civilian government building a “symbol of Hamas rule”. Thus the Israeli army retained its purity as the “most moral army in the world”.

Yes it seems, however, your blinders missed all the pizza parlor/bus/market bombings your heroes conducted.

They were so horrible yet, you have nothing to say about them except to proclaim those that conduct them as 'heroes.'

Once you can do so your voice will have merit but, until then, you are a puppet for Islamofascism which, as we all know is by your mindless anti Israel/Westernism not allowed to be objective. So, some people have not changed. Your hatred of those you oppose and worship of those who kill them has not.
