It just proves my point... the US and now AU don't need gun control, they need GOON control.

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by
a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by
our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than
$500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,

Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.

(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the
criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in
armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in
the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their
prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of
the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has
decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in
'successfully ridding Australian society of guns.' You won't see this
on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the
State Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of
honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws
affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!

300% my ass..........and it has actually been 12 years, not 12 months

you are simply wrong, wrong, wrong!!! go to www.victoriapolice.com.au crime statistics for 2007/2008 and have a look..............fgs!! you seem to be pushing a NRA agenda here............so are you a member?? get your facts straight and worry about your own backyard, and all the children in school shootings who so readily had access to guns before you start shooting off your fear campaign based on lies.........by the way i am a gun owner, as we have a farm!!

That doesn't suprise me at all, people need the right to protect themselves, they will and are trying to take our guns away as well. that way when they decide to make this Country and world under the authority of the Anti-Christ noone will be able to defend themselves it will happen here in the first 3 1/2 yrs of the tribulation in my opinion, because there will be peace on earth so people will think they don't need them anymore.... by the way....you seemed to ask a question, then quote 'apparent' statistics..............instead maybe you should have said that the police officer in question had quoted those figures to you, asked for help from someone who knew or did your research before you statisticalize on what someone has told you.........

I do not care. Who, what, or why. We have the right to live and be safe. Protecting ourselves and our offspring is our right. I will use a gun and my life to protect my family.

One of my best friends is a retired cop here in Arizona, he sent me this email, I am simply asking.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people..

Yeah, but it's a lot easier for a person to kill another person if they DO have a gun! I think the part about Victoria is total CRAP - I live here and I don't think violent crime is any worse, given the rise in population. These statistics are twisted by the gun-happy idiots!

go to the link www.victoriapolice.com.au to view the crime statistics, all crime is down since our gun control laws came in 12 YEARS ago, and considering in just 2007/2008 our population in victoria rose by 1.7% to 5,274,000............also according to murder stats across the universe, USA is at #24 for the most murders=0.042802 murders for every one thousand people (per capita) and australia is ranked #43 with 0.0150324 per every thousand people (per capita), pretty much one third less than the USA based on the per capita population.................we do not want ready access to guns, more guns out there equals more deaths!! this is not an argument about self defence, everybody has that right, this is an argument about gun control.......bowling for columbine anyone??
