President Bush was asked the following question in his final news conference with the press...

What is the greatest and most urgent threat when it comes to security that Barack Obama has to deal with?

THE PRESIDENT: The most urgent threat that he'll have to deal with, and other Presidents after him will have to deal with, is an attack on our homeland. You know, I wish I could report that's not the case, but there's still an enemy out there that would like to inflict damage on America -- Americans. And that will be the major threat.

The President made his voice louder as he made this statement.

Do you believe another attack is being planned against our homeland?
If so, do you believe it will happen very soon?
Is it possible for our government to protect our nation and its people from ever being attacked again?
Do you trust that they will succeed in protecting us?
Do you believe we learned how to protect this nation, due to what happened on 9/11?

Good morning HL!wave

All I'm going to say on this thread is, my lips are sealed on this topic. My beliefs and opinions would surely offend others.

Have a good day sister!

what is "Homeland"? our economy, our actual homes, our international corporations,or our citizens?

Yes we can be protected but at what cost? our very freedoms that make us unique from all other countries government?

trusting the government? if indeed that was the case why even give us the right to vote lets trust them to do the right thing.

yes our country is in peril of attack... from within, from our own nations greed and arrogance, from other nations who seek the power or simply to reduce the influence of the American way of life.

Its happening now in small increments, so minuscule that many of the citizens actually believe what is occurring is for the good and safety of our nation.

I believe that "Homeland" definitely includes all of the entities you have listed, but I believe Bush's reference was in regards to events such as 9/11.

Would you be willing to trade your Freedom for Security? Many will willingly do so, without considering the cost or effectiveness.

Do our votes really count? 93% of the American people said "NO" to the bailouts, yet our representatives voted "Yes", as they believe they "know what's BEST for US!!!!" Trust THEM???rolling on the floor laughing

You make good points considering our country in peril of attack, however I believe the motives for attack on our nation to be influenced through other sources with specific reasonings planned out long ago.

Your last paragraph... So right on!!!thumbs up

Appreciate your response fireliter!hug

If you bothered to read Bush's own 9-11 report - you'd see we attacked the wrong country ( if you care about to post - you should care enough to learn) Another vital piece of reading is the LIbby 22 page indictment. You will see deceit pervasive through the white house.

As to attacks here you seem to repeating what everyone else says.

Think for a moment.

2860 or so died in the World Trade CEnter attacks- many of them were from all over the world. PUblic relations wise it was a disaster for terrorists. IT cost them alot to come here - plan and carry out their acts.

Bush made it easier for them and 4500 American Soldiers have died. The world doesnt care about that and its much easier and better PR to knock off invading soldiers.

If you were prospecting for GOLD would you prefer

A. making a trip to Alaska and digging for it under harsh conditions or

B. Having a big pot of it placed in your back yard?

I am not American.

Neither do I profess of being some analyst of sorts or expert..........

I am a simple nobody with an opinion......

I sincerely believe that Bush was one of the worst presidents the world has ever seen.

It is hard for me to believe that after the paranoia of fear that was created within the US and all around the globe under his presidency, anybody in his right senses would still try to make sense of what the man says.

The US is one of, if not THE most powerful nation in the world. there will always be those who would want to harm it, and possibly attack it.

But this will never justify continuously playing the drums of war to such an extent that the entire US is now on it's knees economically.

I would much rather see the US concentrating it's efforts on giving it's citizens a better deal then the one they've had under Bush and his paranoiac defense of the 'homeland'.

The US is the country where old people are thrown out in the streets from hospital due to their not having any money for treatment.

Due to Bush, your country is already under attack....from within it's very core.

No nation is safe in this world . The vested western interests for arms and Oil has made this world a dangerous place. American worry about the impending attack on their country ,where as thousands of clueless villages in Afganistan and NWFP Pakistan with a fear for life that they may be killed by an US missile .US has massacred thousands in Afganistan and Iraq . think of their insecure feelings

I tend to disagree on this one Conrad......

first of all hate is a big word.....

I grew up under the impression that the US was the stalwart bastion of democracy and freedom....

To a large extent, I still believe it is......it is the cauldron that represent very nearly all humanity.....the people living in the US are in effect, a sampling of all tribes, cultures, religions and other diversification of the human race that exist on this planet.

Over the years however, I have seen the corruption, greed, and overdose of power that seems to have taken over the leadership of your nation.

It is therefore not hatred that I profess towards the US, but anger.

Anger at having such a great nation, allow itself to vote in power such assholes as we have seen for nearly quarter of a century.

For what that is worth....my innermost thoughts...

Yes,
If Bush says there will be attacks, you can count on it.

It's like being told that you only have a few days to live by a Mafia Godfather.

He may not know anything about medecine, but he knows that your health is about to take a turn for the worse.

Maybe because of the arrogance in thinking that the US makes the world go round......

There were innumerable numbers of much more formidable civilizations then that of the US that have come and gone in the history of mankind.....the US is just a baby of a mere couple of hundred years of age.....

so a little bit more humbleness might be in order to regain global respect for the US.
