Me! I'm a vegetarian but not a vegan. I'll probably end up married to a cattle farmer with my luck.

I do have to ask one question, and it will show why I'm not a vegetarian...why do you think it's okay to kill plants, but not animals, for food? All are sentient beings who feel pain, and our system was designed to tolerate all of it for a reason. Seriously, just curious on the viewpoints of those who are vegetarians. I do respect your choice.

I'll update, btw. I eat gluten-free and dairy-free, and mostly raw fruits and vegetables now. But I do still eat eggs, fish, chicken, pork, and the occasional small amount of beef. I need the animal proteins to maintain my thyroid naturally.

We are all so different in our logic and preferences and I think we eat accordingly. Your reasons for what you eat sound like they work for you and that's all that matters.

I don't eat meat because the idea of decomposing sinew and tissue and blood in my mouth makes me want to gag.

I have never had any adverse reactions health wise and am happy to continue as a mostly vegan who indulges in a little cheese from time to time.

I don't care overly what other people eat (although in a perfect world according to me....) I have never dated another vegetarian in other words I don't date according to what I want to eat.

Thank you, Moongirl. And I understand better now why you eat that way. And as long as it works for you and you're healthy, no reason not to. However, I'm learning now too that not all who are vegetarian should necessarily be, just as not all who eat meat should do so. It's not necessarily the healthiest diet for all, as has been touted.

It is, however, healthier for me because of my blood type, and I'm moving closer to it. I'll always have fish, poultry, and eggs in my diet though...and those are safe for me as well as necessary for my thyroid.

I do find it cool that you can date those who are non-vegan or non-vegetarian. I think it would be easier for me to date a vegetarian than it would one who eats a normal American diet. I've changed, and so my needs have changed.

This is an old debate, actually (do carrots feel pain). And there are many explanations.

Very well put! I never tell anyone what to eat, and I absolutely do not tolerate being told by others what I should or should not eat. It's as simple as that! So unless the person eats dogs, I have no problems with his diet, I just don't care.

I decided to go vegetarian for lots of reasons. The main one is that I heard somewhere that cows eat enough crops to feed 17 people a year. Also, I was working at an Arbys at the time. I was the sandwich maker and just slicing all that meat and thinking about how much of it Americans consume is scary. Then there was the thing about people cutting down acres of rain forest to herd cattle who trample the ground flat so that nothing else can grow there. blues

I have never heard of people eating grass. The cows have their own ecological nich, just as humans do. The cow isnt taking anything from a human.bouquet

I believe that plants do feel pain. They are sentient, living beings just like you and me. This has been the biggest reason for being vegetarian I've heard before from the few I've known, is not killing animals because they're living beings...but it makes no sense to me when so is a vegetable or an herb. And so is a piece of quartz. Three kingdoms of life: animal, vegetable and mineral.

And I'm training for it to be my job to help guide others to eat right, but I do my best to refrain unless asked for my help.

One thing I'm learning is that not everyone thrives on a vegetarian diet. I'm a type A blood type, so I should actually be a vegetarian, though I can tolerate poultry and fish. Type O's need meat, as do type B's and some type AB's. So, it's not the ideal way to eat for all, and my training is towards helping people eat for optimal health and their individual needs.

The more I study nutrition and how what we eat affects our bodies, the more fascinated I am with this subject. I do want to make it clear, however, that I'm not in here to tell anyone that they're wrong, but out of curiosity. I have no desire to offend anyone.
