Dont see that at all.WhAT I do see is we had step up our security since 9-11.Our guard was down then and thousands of lives were taken.By unselfish, unknowing and its the ignorance that makes them so deadly. We in America will do what it takesto protect what is near and dear to us.One thing that must be said is generations have fought to the death for the freedom we have here. And if thats what it takes more lives will be given, for it is given for love of this country.Yet it seems to other countries that we are becoming a police nation. No its not that,we just love and hold dear this great land we live in,and will protect it at all cost.
Yes protecting it by letting 'big brother' watching you scold

Is that freedom? Yes it's OK to tighten security as long as it goes through the court system. It becomes a problem when FBI or CIA or Homeland Security dont have to go through the court system to get permissions to surveil!!!

I can hardly believe you actually defend that Bush went outside the law to surveil people. Do you?

May I remind you about the meaning of the word 'Police State':
"A state in which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic, and political life of the people, especially by means of a secret police force."scold

For someone who is so concerned about Police States, you seem to have an awful lot to say about countries other than your own in a public forum!...scold

Well nobody have said anything about my country...maybe because we have not yet come this far like your country wink

If you believe that I like everything in my country...think twice...but at least we are not giving up our freedom so far!

So far it the minority of Americans who fights that tendency...very interesting that most people who have replied here actually defends limits on freedom wink

If this trend concerns you...watch it closely.

As I'm sure you know...people are people the world over,

governments and laws

are built from people.

Big difference in us and those other countries they had no leadership to speak of,what they had was a controlling fist, squeezing their rights out of them.A case in point would be to tell you here we choose our government. We exercise our right to voteto see who will be placed in that position.I entirely agree with measures our country is taken to insure we are safe.Just think about this suppose terrorists got into your country by whatever means it took. Now while planning and plotting to kill you at any cost, they remain in hiding because more security has to be enforced.Yet they work in your country, make money in your country the whole time they are planning to destroy as many as they can. They seen couple loopholes and slid their slimy self on thru. The terrorists will never stop, they have already said, its them or us.And while we have never had disaster within our country like 9-11.Still we believe in using strong measures, and its not only now but in Vietnam war,Korean war about every war there has been the knowledge that something needed to be done, and it was.Only someone that does that feel sadness or loss that we as a country have felt. And it was we as a country that will come thru this and we will do this together, and keep on being great, the United States of America. We salute you, red, white, and blue.

Im sorry...but again it seems like your history is lacking a little bit. Our country has democracy but has refused to let fear control us. We live in a dangerous world and no one can warrant safety totally.

The world has always been dangerous...quite interesting you or I should say your president believe you can force peace or freedom down on others.
What has the war in Iraq done to you Americans...it means you can't travel freely anymore. It means you are hated even more than ever by these fundamentalists. Force is only creating more resistance which means people wanting to destroy you. wink

Is that what you want?

And who says we defend going out of the legal jurisdiction to get things done.Bush had pretty much wrote his own ticket,Im republican. But Im beginning to think maybe hed done better being governor in texas. So see actions do have consequences in our country. And you in other countries who are pointing your finger at us,think about yourself. But then again think about what our country has done for yours.Im sure its quite a list.

This was the first really positive respons Ive found expressed here...a republican admitting maybe Bush should have stayed in TX.
Question is will it change the road you have gone on...or will it continue its fully a police state.

I would hope that when people tells you there is something you should consider you would actually look at it objectively. Thats what we do as foreigners as we are not involved in your politics as it seems like lots of people just blindly believes their leader or his party.

Even his own people now have started questioning what he is doing to your country. Republican party have controlled the media quite well else you would never have come this far.

Never has media been more controlled in the information they get. I sure hope as I love America that you guys wake up before its too late.

You would see it like that.If you kept up with news as you say, they wanted to be free.My God look at sadeem, then look at freedom. Is that a hard choice to make.Y ou sound like we are doing police state and forcing our government on them. They asked for and got our help. And in doing this it has made them hate us more. They want what we have but are to evil to aquire it except by blowing people up,yeah, police state, communist control next.

Excuse me...you dont believe that it was actually to help the people...you cant possibly mean that.

Everybody knows its the oil its money which controls the decisions. Yes there might be some want to free them from Sadamm...BUT I can assure you its financial reasons which really was the reasons behind it. Weapons of mass destruction...where were they? They never found anything threathening.

Yes, now the war is going on...and I do like they actually got a change to create democracy. But you dont change people thoughts pattern overnite. It will take decades for this to happen.

You are so right - there has never been a president which has caused more damage to America! professor

You Americans take it like we dont like you...that is NOT the case...we are only pointing out that you need to start question what your president is doing!

As we say...he is damaging your country to an extend you guys obviously dont realize.

Yes we have a lot to be thankful for during the 2nd world war...and we are...but it doesnt mean we'll just close our eyes when somebody is trying to destroy your country!!!

I sure hope there would be somebody who cared about us by telling us Danes if our government was doing the same to either Danes or any other country. professor

But its not damage that cant be undone.Lets see now you said behind everything we do is oil.Get real. Each and everytime there is a horrific disaster we are always there,to help anyway they can. While Bush is failure,at least we have option to get him out.Worried about oil I think not.And I was waiting on weapons mass destruction to come outwho knows how many shelters in the ground that havent been discovered, and whats in them.No Bush has not been a strong president, but look whats been on his plate, dealing with terrorists from within, and death and destruction right in our homeland.

I for one don't mind some of the new laws as I have nothing to hide. These new laws are only for finding those who have nothing on their minds but to hurt America. I'm all for them so long as they help keep my kids and future grandchildren safe

Frankly, I could care less about what folks from other countries think about the United States and our government.

If you are so concerned about our laws, why don't you come live here, become a citizen.

Then you can vote and have a say in which laws are passed here.
