Frankly, I could care less about what folks from other countries think about the United States and our government.

If you are so concerned about our laws, why don't you come live here, become a citizen.

Then you can vote and have a say in which laws are passed here.

In response to:
Genuine freedom has always been an illusion, and always will be.

Within any civilization laws have always existed controlling what people may or may not do.

Fascism is only as bad as the people who are dictating the laws.

If "we the people" dictate the laws, they will still exist.

In fact, if the MAJORITY RULED, like it's supposed to be in a genuinely democracy then a lot of so-called freedoms that minorities now have would be revoked.

The majority hasn't ruled in America for a very long time.

I’m not convinced that this is necessarily a bad idea either.

A true democracy would be nothing other than a state where the majority were the dictators.

That still wouldn't spell freedom for the minorities.

Human societies will ALWAYS be trade-offs.

There's no such thing as a genuinely free society.

There never has been, and never will be.
Right on Abra..Very true to Canada as well..frustrated

I often used to wonder how Germany as it was during WWII happened.

http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/511928.html
******************************************************

I will never wonder again.

"Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some
poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that
he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece.

Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in
England, nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is
understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who
determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the
people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or
a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.

Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the
bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them
they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of
patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in
any country."

Goering, Nuremberg

Here are some links that show just how much is flying under the radar. Most of the things listed here are not even KNOWN to the majority of Americans.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downing_Street_memo
Let us start with this video. Broussard the Jefferson Parish President CRYING as he explains how FEMA shut off their communications, kept needed resources from them while people were dying after Katrina. http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/news/14768114.htm
Stolen money from Ohio workers funds finds it's way into the pockets of Many high level politicians. Taft is also being investigated in an ethics probe.

http://207.46.150.51/id/3070340/
Veteran POW's from the first Iraq war win a settlement in US courts. The bush administration goes to court to KEEP the money from the veterans claiming it needs all the money from the frozen Iraqi assets to rebuild Iraq.

Which leads us to...
The missing money.
http://democrats.senate.gov/dpc/hearings/hearing22/mayberry.pdf

>>One of the main benefactors of the Iraq funds was the Texas-based firm Halliburton, which was paid more than $1 billion out of those funds to bring in fuel for Iraqi civilians.

The monitoring board said despite repeated requests it had not been given access to U.S. audits of contracts held by Halliburton, which was once run by Vice President Dick Cheney, and other firms that used the development funds.<<

Halliburton gets an unusual amount of US contracts considering the problems which consistently arise around them such as..

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10977706/
Providing our troops with contaminated water.

http://democrats.senate.gov/dpc/hearings/hearing22/mayberry.pdf
And food as per testimony before the US Senate Democratic Policy Committee.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4480796/

There are also the claims of faulty Armor and vehicles.

The US Army, it was reported widely several months ago, was telling soldiers that they would lose their life insurance if they continued to use privately bought dragonskin armor.

http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2006/01/16/opinion/chatfield/11506191333.txt

Of course some of these are old and forgotten stories now...
What has Haliburton been up to lately?

Google Katrina and Halliburton.
They received a massive chunk for the clean up of Katrina.

http://www.nola.com/newsflash/louisiana/index.ssf?/base/news-25/1150657457206520.xml&storylist=louisiana
Why are we still finding bodies nearly one year later?

Another recent contract of Halliburton's?
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/04/national/04halliburton.html?ex=1296709200&en=0172899afda059e4&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
The contract for detainee camps.

http://money.cnn.com/2003/09/25/news/companies/cheney/?cnn=yes
As of 2003 Cheney was still profiting from Halliburton stock.

The Downing Street Minutes documents add an interesting perspective on the war in Iraq...

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1593607,00.html

This one dated July 23, 2002 says....

>>It seemed clear that Bush had made up his mind to take military action, even if the timing was not yet decided. But the case was thin. Saddam was not threatening his neighbours, and his WMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea or Iran. We should work up a plan for an ultimatum to Saddam to allow back in the UN weapons inspectors. This would also help with the legal justification for the use of force.<<

Another of the documents says that the "intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downing_Street_memo

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

And They Thought They Were Free....heh

I think that the issue of freedom lies on the definition of majority in what so called democracy! 51% is a mjority, is it?

Before you doen the states , did you think about all the new inventions in the last 100 years? 99% from the United States.
How many inventions from Denmark? 0 , you say?

By the way , you are ranting on the internet. Invented by an American , Algore .

Wrong! The internet was not invented by an American
